Partisan or non-partisan?

Recommended Posts

I have a feeling that the same folks that think the NRA is non-partisan would call the LWV partisan. And vice-versa.

Thoughts?

It's what Wikipedia says, and we all know how liberal Wikipedia is :). They have to be, in order to be a 501c3 organization.

>Plus I have Never heard anyone call NRA non partisan!

Then why did you vote for 'NRA: non partisan?'

I didn't vote on the poll at all, I'd apreciate if you wouldn;t try and speak for me, I can handle that myself,,,,Even if I do mispell it!

I'm pretty sure "Moderator" doesn;t mean speaking for others!:S

It depends on how buddy buddy you are with them.

Well, considering that the NRA has endorsed 58 Democrats in the House of Representatives, it's a bit hard to call them truly "partisan".

They freely admit to being a single-issue organization. They back any candidate, regardless of party affiliation who they believe will aid their cause.

They recently published an editorial about this, responding to criticism from other organizations about supporting Democrats. Their response was that these other organizations supported anti-gun candidates and issues (They specifically noted the American Chamber of Commerce and their support of "gun free" zones in workplace parking lots).

Wow, all of 13%. Truly non partisan.

That is all that could/would support their agenda. If you want them to donate more to your side, convince your side to support their agenda.

Well, considering that the Democrats are the liberals, and the liberals are far more likely to be in favor of gun control, it isn't at all surprising that the NRA endorses far more Repulicans.

But they are endorsing incumbent Democrats over pro-gun Republican challengers, following their policy of choosing the incumbent over the challenger if all else is equal.

Hardly "partisan" behavior IMO.

Which is why the semantics of assigning simple labels for non-simple things makes me itch, and I have little patience for it any more. And the same method of analysis you just used re: NRA can easily be assigned to the LWV, too: LWV is non-partisan, but the demographics that flow from its narrow mission often makes its membership trend toward liberal... more or less.

They are both non-partisan. And they are both partisan. They are what they are.
Ergo, multiple answers being allowed, I voted for all four options.

The LWV doesn't endorse candidates at all. Period. They do endorse causes (sometimes), but not candidates.
