wmw999 2,589 #1 November 1, 2010 I have a feeling that the same folks that think the NRA is non-partisan would call the LWV partisan. And vice-versa. Thoughts? wolfriverjoe 1,523 #7 November 1, 2010 Well, considering that the NRA has endorsed 58 Democrats in the House of Representatives, it's a bit hard to call them truly "partisan". They freely admit to being a single-issue organization. They back any candidate, regardless of party affiliation who they believe will aid their cause. They recently published an editorial about this, responding to criticism from other organizations about supporting Democrats. Their response was that these other organizations supported anti-gun candidates and issues (They specifically noted the American Chamber of Commerce and their support of "gun free" zones in workplace parking lots)."There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Wow, all of 13%. Truly non partisan. Well, considering that the Democrats are the liberals, and the liberals are far more likely to be in favor of gun control, it isn't at all surprising that the NRA endorses far more Repulicans. But they are endorsing incumbent Democrats over pro-gun Republican challengers, following their policy of choosing the incumbent over the challenger if all else is equal. Hardly "partisan" behavior IMO."There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." And the same method of analysis you just used re: NRA can easily be assigned to the LWV, too: LWV is non-partisan, but the demographics that flow from its narrow mission often makes its membership trend toward liberal... more or less. They are both non-partisan. And they are both partisan. They are what they are. Ergo, multiple answers being allowed, I voted for all four options. wmw999 2,589 #13 November 2, 2010 The LWV doesn't endorse candidates at all. Period. They do endorse causes (sometimes), but not candidates.
