billvon 3,100 #27 October 22, 2010 >they want fiscal responsibility , doesn't make them stupid ! Agreed; that doesn't make them stupid. The fact that they want to keep "government out of their Medicare" makes them stupid. Here's a great summary of their position on how much government spending they want: "That’s a conundrum, isn’t it? I don’t know what to say. Maybe I don’t want smaller government. I guess I want smaller government and my Social Security. I didn’t look at it from the perspective of losing things I need. I think I’ve changed my mind." When asking simple questions confuses them enough that they abandon their Tea Party positions, then those positions are not very well thought out ones. If the "Anti Tea Party" had that policy, then they'd be racist as well. >or the ones that said they voted for obama because he wanted to >extend the war in Iraq, and ban gay marriage. They'd be stupid. Again, if the "Anti Tea Party" had that policy, then that would be a really stupid party position. >let's take one example of stupidity and plaster the entire group with it. >isn't that what you're doing here bill? Nope. Everyone in the Tea Party isn't stupid, nor are all their positions stupid. However, their absolute and very vocal opposition to government spending on health and welfare, combined with their very commonly expressed desire to "keep government out of Medicare and Social Security" is contradictory and poorly thought out, and makes a bit of a joke of their position on the matter. Like I said, wanting fiscal responsibility doesn't make them stupid. Wanting to cut spending - and then opposing government cuts to that spending - does. They CLAIM to want fiscal responsibility, but so far I've seen no concrete proposals that they are willing to stand behind. I think the rank and file "members" are being bamboozled into supporting something that is, in fact, contrary to their interests because it makes a good sound bite.... billvon 3,100 #32 October 22, 2010 Yep. And when asked for specifics, they generally say "cut wasteful government spending" or "cut entitlement programs." But, apparently, not Medicare, Social Security, defense spending, border spending, roads, veteran's hospitals, or any other of their favorite programs. When pressed they generally can't name any programs at all, or name programs that would save us a hundred million or something. In other words, they're pretty much like Democrats in that regard. They like the idea of cutting spending but can't actually bring themselves to cut anything.

That's because what they really mean are things like welfare and food stamps. As in, Reagan's "welfare queen". As in, Gingrich's "the party of food stamps". As in, plausibly-deniable "code". DaVinci 0 #50 October 23, 2010 QuoteFree markets brought us the great depression, the recent housing meltdown and current recession. Limited government allowed it to happen. It is not a free market when the Govt steps in to prevent it from failing. The housing market was forced to lend to people who were questionable by the Community Reinvestment Act which was signed by Carter and given more power by Clinton. "Robert Rubin, the Assistant to the President for Economic Policy, under President Clinton, explained that this was in line with President Clinton's strategy to "deal with the problems of the inner city and distressed rural communities"." And then you wanna talk about the mortgage meltdown???? You know that the Govt (Christopher Dodd and Charles E. Schumer and backed by Clinton) amended the "Federal Deposit Insurance Act" and that the act allowed banks to merge or expand into other types of financial institutions. So the Govts fingerprints are ALL over the market, housing and banks. And that clearly didn't work out.
