How do you even spend that much?

Recommended Posts

Obama about to announce budget deficit.

He spent over 3 trillion this year.

The deficit is to be 1.3T next year and then 1.4T next year!

STOP THE SPENDING!

The same vapid generalization works for conservatives. Money is magic, and will magically multiply due to the economy boost that comes with spending it on the defense budget while taking in less.

Sounds just as silly, doesn't it?

What people fail to realize is the 2009 budget was set in place by the Bush Administration. It's just easier to blame the current sitting President than to uncover the facts.

http://budget.senate.gov/democratic/documents/2008/bushfy2009budgetbriefanalysis020508.pdf

The Obama Administration 2010 budget has reduced the budget deficit by $111 billion dollars.

Consider that Obama was given a huge debt when he took office and that anything that he may do will add to the deficit (no matter how small). Of course it will take time (and money) to put the country back on track to what was great during the Clinton years (which Bush quickly turned into a deficit).

Might want to cite something a little more current than February 2008. It's Bush's faultism was in full swing then...now...not so much.

$787 billion...a mere pittance. A drop in the bucket really.[:/]

The budget for 2009 was set in 2008. The budget for 2010 was set in 2009. It will take a good number of years to dwindle down the deficit. Merely screaming "STOP SPENDING MONEY!!!!" will do nothing (as so many people seem to believe is the answer). This country would grind to a stop if just half of the spending was cut. Where do people suppose the government should cut spending? Defense? Education? Health care? Social security? It seems that nobody wants to pay taxes and everyone wants to end government spending. Would be nice if you could have it both ways. Fact is most of the debt was inherited and not recently incurred. Clinton inherited a huge debt the same that Obama has inherited a huge debt. The deficit will build for awhile before it goes down. See as you will. Facts are facts.

you don't think that facts will actually persuade ANY of the usual suspects who claim to be "independents or libertarians" and not the usual fringe right GOP Bush loving hacks from proceeding with the usual Obama Bash do you.... :S:S:S:S

US government debt is out of control. It does not matter if it is a Donkey or an Elephant in the White House. Both parties are out of control. It would be nice if you took off your partisan blinders for once and recognized that your Messiah is not here to save the world as Hollywood told everyone he would. Obama actually makes GWB look like a fiscal conservative and non-partisans know GWB was no fiscal conservative. :S

You really do not know how budgets here work do you. Perhaps if you actually LOOKED at the data you would take off those blinders that supported the fringe right ... right down the toilet. I realize you guys LOVE taking those trickle down showers.. but remember this... when Carter was in office the debt was $800 BILLION. When Reagan lied his way into office... even GHW Bush called it VOO DOO Economics. Here we are 30 years later.. and even THIS budget can still be laid at the feet of the Reagan-Bush Cabal. oh and by the way... before you TRY to claim I have blinders again... I voted for Reagan till he proved to be a spendthrift and fiscal responsibility was beyond his grasp.

What's there to know. You have a bunch of pork and a bunch of barrels and Donkeys and Elephants continue to shovel one into the other. Spend spend spend, there never was a politician in Washington who did not like stuffing those barrels with all that pork. It's just that the Messiah is shoveling even more pork into those barrels than anyone else in the history of the USA. But that's okay, I am sure some twit from Hollywood will be tweeting about how the Messiah will be saving the world on his "YES WE CAN ... spend more than anyone else" presidency. :S

The economy would NOT be in the state it is if so many of you did not love being trickled on so fucking much. Your economic model in the Party of VOODOODOO ECONOMICS has been fucked up for 30 years now.. the DEFICIT shows that.. but some people are incapable of rubbing a few of their far too adled brain cells together to figure that out.

There are some of us here.. and we have EXPERIENCED FIRST HAND how badly the rePUBICLOWNS have butt fucked the economy. Personally I think the resolutions other countries have used should have been used 20 years ago when we all saw where this was going... at least GHWB saw it and was honest enough to try to stop the inevitable

His Kid .. after you guys voted him in... saw the opportunity to enrich himself and his buddies... all the while TRICKLING on all the stupid fuckers who voted for him.

What I can't fathom is how you can believe the rePUBIClowns bullshit about smaller government and fiscal responsibility thru 15 electiopn cycles.. with absolutely ZERO proof of it... FOOL you ALL of the time..Preparation H.. the favorite lube of the Party of NO

Facts are facts.

So when exactly in 2008 did they come up with the Stimulus spending bill? Cash for Clunkers? The new health care bill and its associated costs?

TARP was passed in 2008, and with a potentially nasty $700B debt associated with it, but now the estimates for the total cost will be but $30B.

With revenues shifting with the economics, it's probably more useful to look at the spending - the Feds have more control over that then they do with the income side.

It wasn't. it was in response to the current situation. In some areas it did help. In others, it is a failure. Just depends on where you are.

Cash for clunkers was a bad idea and a waste of money, no argument there. I will also say that Bush's bonus depreciation program on new vehicles did nothing for the economy as well. That amounted to nothing more than a windfall for the wealthy. Two bad ideas that hurt the governments income. Sad thing about both programs is that neither took true junk off of the road. My old 1976 E250 van wasn't even on the list of vehicles that qualified. I recently parted it out and took the body to the scale. May it RIP.

The new health care bill? Estimates show that it will eventually reduce the deficit by more than a trillion dollars, according to the CBO. Some parts of the bill, I like. Some parts of the reform, I don't like. The true cost has yet to be realized. Only time will tell.

The numbers on Fannie May and Freddie Mac has yet to be realized. Foreclosures are still on the rise. The economy is still in a stall. TARP prevented the worst, but did little otherwise.

I agree and disagree. Spending is a problem, but it is in response to what has led up to it. Years of war, bail outs, and tax cuts. Not to mention the jobs that have been lost over a long period of time. Lower incomes contribute as well. You cannot expect someone who is making a low wage to support an economy that demands higher wage earnings. As of now, I contribute very little to support the economy. I buy next to nothing. My freezer is stocked with meat that I hunted. My motorcycle uses less fuel than my truck, therefore I use the bike 99% of the time and will do so throughout the winter. I patch my pants when need be. I use the minimum amount of electricity. I have no cable or satellite. I use the T.V. that i bought in 1998. Until I have a job that will pay a wage that will allow me to contribute, I will be one of the many that is not doing such. Stop the export of jobs. Impose higher taxes on companies that seek cheap labor outside the U.S. for higher profits. Bring back good jobs and wages and people will spend money. The government can then collect more taxes. I would be happy to pay a little more in exchange for a good paying job such as I had during the Clinton years.
I'll conclude that there will always be opposition to the ever shrinking middle class. The divide between the rich and poor is getting wider everyday and that any action to decrease that divide is viewed as socialist. It's as if those under a certain income level do not exist or they just no longer matter in this country. In order for this country to turn around, what has been taken from the working class needs to be returned.

well I can tell you one way obama is cutting down the deficit. Normally the miltary gets anywhere between a 3-4% annual pay increase to try and match the private sector. This year he is proposing a 1.4% increase instead. I'm sorry but thats a huge slap in the face for all the things you go through being in the military.

Did you get the part about the economy being in the toilet???

Well over 10% of your countrymen are out of a job ( the official rate is under 10% but when you factor in those who have given up... just sayin)

And I guess you missed the part where many people have taken severe pay cuts.

On a less brighter note.. the value of my house.. has gone down about $100000 since the Burning the Economy Bush left office. It is now worth less than what I bought it for in 2001:S:S:S

I am sure there are MILLIONS who would LOVE to get a 1.4% increase.. if they had a job.

Go ahead and TRY to blame it on this administration.. but only the brain damaged actually believe that shit. :S:S:S

1.4% raise is a damn sight better than a pay cut or being fired.
