"Isaac and Ishmael"

Recommended Posts

In honor of 911, I thought we might want to review some of the very basics of terrorism.

The following clips were taken from the television series The West Wing episode titled "Isaac and Ishmael." It was the first new episode to air after the 911 attacks. Much of the country was still in a state of panic. Profits from this episode where donated to 911 relief funds.

Don't worry, there is little in the way partisan politics in this episode. It's well researched and extremely well written.

The White House is locked down due to a terrorist threat and the ensemble discusses various aspects of terrorism with members of a visiting high school class. The series of clips shows the power of the ensemble cast. Each member of the ensemble approaches the topic from a different point of view.

This clip starts with the characters Josh and Donna talking with the high school students.
Kill 'em all.

CJ joins Toby, Sam, Josh and Donna. CJ argues in favor of additional intelligence and spying to combat terrorism.
This song is called "CIA; our maligned little brother."

Charlie joins CJ, Toby, Sam, Josh and Donna. Charlie explains how terrorists are basically gang members.
Where do terrorists come from?

In this final segment Mrs. Bartlett talks about the biblical origins of the fight between the Islamic and Jewish people.
How did it all start?

And it will not end until the Battle of Armageddon.

Which, of course, will never happen.:|

Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.

There may be hope for you yet!

Well, most Christians hope for the end of our imperfect lives. (including me...I can't stand my sinful nature.)

However:

Proverbs 17:5
Whoever mocks the poor insults his Maker; he who is glad at calamity will not go unpunished.

I may be taking this out of context, but I think it's clear that we really shouldn't be glad about the signs of the calamity that is about to come.

Remember...God does not take pleasure in the death of the wicked:

Ezekiel 18:23
Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked, declares the Lord GOD, and not rather that he should turn from his way and live?

Ezekiel 33:11
Say to them, As I live, declares the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live; turn back, turn back from your evil ways, for why will you die, O house of Israel?
Your secrets are the true reflection of who you really are...
