SkyPiggie 0 #1 August 31, 2010 Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson says she'll repay scholarship funds by week's end http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/latestnews/stories/083110dntexebjfolo.a5140066.html U.S. Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson awarded eight scholarships last year to her grandsons and a top aide's children – bringing to 23 the number of awards she handed out since 2005 in violation of Congressional Black Caucus Foundation eligibility rules. Ethics experts called Johnson's actions troubling and potentially problematic for her, given that the scholarships violated anti-nepotism rules and went to students who neither live nor study in her district or any other represented by a member of the black caucus, as required. Johnson initially defended her scholarship choices, then acknowledged violating the scholarship rules... She also said that ... she might not have picked relatives had there been more qualified applicants.

I guess this was not a problem for you?? blatant plagarism follows: Vice President Dick Cheney's son-in-law, Philip Perry, has been named deputy attorney general. Secretary of State Colin Powell's son, Michael Powell, is the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission. Powell was appointed to the FCC by President Clinton in 1997 and elevated to chairman earlier this year. Bush also re-appointed him to another term on the commission, until 2007. Budget Director Mitchell Daniels' sister, Deborah, has been appointed assistant attorney general. Deputy White House press secretary Scott McClellan's brother is on the president's Council of Economic Advisers. The brother of White House political director Ken Mehlman -- Bruce -- is an assistant secretary of commerce. In the broader Republican family, relatives of Chief Justice William Rehnquist and Justice Antonin Scalia also have been picked for plum posts in the Bush administration. Janet Rehnquist is the inspector general of the Department of Health and Human Services, and Eugene Scalia is solicitor general at the Labor Department. He was one of Bush's attorneys when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of the then-Republican presidential candidate in the Florida election case. Andy9o8 2 #4 August 31, 2010 And Dan Quayle's son Ben blogs for a dirty website. Why do you support dirty websites? Don't you care about the children? This is all stupid. If I was lecturing a middle-school social studies class, I'd tell them, without using too many big words, that each party has its share of office-holders who do stupid, or corrupt, or illegal things, but that neither party predominates in that. Let's put this another way: stuff like this only energizes committed partisans, but - aside from individual local races - does not influence the voting patterns of non-committed voters one little bit. SkyDekker 1,465 #7 August 31, 2010 QuoteWhat part of "in violation of Congressional Black Caucus Foundation eligibility rules" gave you the problem? Yeah, but she claimed there were no other good candidates for the scholarships. Like buddy tapping his foot in the washroom stall, wasn't his fault. With power comes corruption, party affiliation doesn't have anything to do with it.

SkyPiggie 0 #16 September 10, 2010 And another one... Sanford Bishop steered scholarships to family "Rep. Sanford Bishop (D-Ga.) awarded three scholarships from the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation to his stepdaughter and wife’s niece between 2003 and 2005, according to records from the nonprofit group. "Bishop is the second Democrat found to have funneled CBC Foundation scholarship funds to relatives, threatening to turn the program into a larger political problem for the party." http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0910/41953.html
