What about the Mormons?

Recommended Posts

The bible is a pretty fucked up book to begin with, misdirected by Christians in the first place, mistranslated at least half a dozen times in the second place.
The Book of Mormon is a pretty good document of fantasy and reasonably close to the original, but it comes no where near the Bible for babble.

I can't help but wonder if the Koran is as badly interpreted and translated as the Bible is?
If so, perhaps Islam's PR would be as good Fox News puts out for Christianity.
Oh wait...Fox is half-owned by a Muslim. You'd think he'd work on getting better PR.

No, it's a very powerful book...a book that people learned to manipulate for their own finacial gain...let me say that the hottest flames of hell are reserved for them!

Me either. Faith? I have faith that everything man touches he twists to his own point of view. Me, you, them, us. Whatever. Religion is just away to control others. Actually I would have more respect for religion if they followed their story books to the letter. At lest then the true evil of religion would be seen for what it is.

Substitute "the constitution" for "religion" and tell us how you feel.
My reality and yours are quite different.

Eh, every Christian sect thinks that about every other Christian sect.

Many Christian sects can atleast agree on the basics...I was talking to a kid (ironically at the bar)going into the seminary to become a priest...He absolutley and clearly denied the Bible and basically said that the Pope and their secret transendant knowledge + tradition trumps the Bible...no thanks.

I spoke scripture into his ear several times till he got the point...he couldn't run out of that place fast enough...he practically peeled out.

>He absolutley and clearly denied the Bible . . .

Most smarter Christians do to varying degrees. There is some horrific stuff in there. Also some really good stuff if you look for it.

Yep. Catholics have the Pope, Mormons have Joseph Smith, Protestants have Martin Luther - everyone has "their guy" with his own ideas. And that's fine; it would be boring if everyone thought the same thing.

Even protestants take martin luther and calvin with a grain of salt...the Bible is the ultimate authority.

It's not so bad when understood...many of the evil acts such as performed by David and Soloman serve as a warning, inspiration and example of God's grace, love and understanding.

Who defines "understanding?"
Many of those that follow Islamic faith "understand" 9/11 to be prophecy fulfilled.

You do, but hopefully with the spirit of God teaching you...A nice rule of thumb to keep is, when it starts becomming about you, your lusts, and what you want...you're probably going the wrong way.

Ultimately it should serve as mirror that humbles you and allows you to become a better person.

However, our heart is despretaley wicked, so this is can be very challenging...so we just have to persevere and keep trying.

Agreed. And the instructions to do things like kill homosexuals are best understood as ancient customs that really have no place in society any more. It's important to know what to heed and what to take with a grain of salt.

(Of course, there are people out there who would attack you for "denying the Bible" for reinterpreting those parts as well; c'est la vie.)

Agreed...it's best to deal with your own demons...with that comes a surpassing love and compassion for others.

This to is so damn hard as I've exhibited with some of my posts...but after it all, look where I'm at...back to the mirror, trying to burn that log out of my own eye.

Edited for clarity:

But don't you see...the pilots of those planes that flew into the WTC fully, firmly believed God (Allah) was guiding them and waiting to receive them.

I fail to see the difference between their brand of "understanding" and yours.

Nope...I see that it was about doing the will of Allah, for his glory. Same as most every other religious douchebag claims he/she is doing things in the name of, because of, heard from "God".

God is such a convenient excuse for so much that people do to each other. I really wish folks would use "Mickey" instead. Then we'd have a tangible icon that could be burned at the stake.:)

Apparently some followers of Islam are angry about repeating themselves too.

They believe they are interpreting the instructions of Allah correctly, you believe you are correctly interpreting the story that God wants you to hear.

How exactly are you and someone from Islam different in this context?

The vast majority of Mormons don't deserve it, and neither do the vast majority of Muslims.

"What about the Christians?";)

"Christianity" is pretty much a Roman hijacking of a Jewish movement.

Rome had nothing but trouble with its Hebrew population in Judea and, after Masada, quit playing Mr. Nice Guy and evicted the populus.

The resistance continued, but now it was disperse. By the time of Constantine (who remained a pagan until his dying breath - press releases to the contrary), it became apparent that, if you can't beat them, become their spiritual leader.

Thus, "christianity" became a Roman franchise, and its "truth" was whatever books the Romans did not choose to burn.

It's amusing to note that the epicenter of "christianity" is the home of the people who put Jesus to death for treason, not Jesus' home.

"Chrisitianity" is but a cult that went viral, and was subjected to corporate takeover when it became useful as a power base to the major power brokers of the era.

Islam is no better.

I was trying to get you to say you would convert to Catholicism and not Islam. So I could get you to admit that Islam would take away your rights as a woman.

This story is also about Muslim women.

They're no more all alike than Christian women, atheist women, or Pagan women.

Are you considering Mormons as a unique off-shoot of Christianity? Mormons by definition aren't Christian.

It all depends on who is doing the defining. Mormons would certainly identify themselves as Christians. That is their definition.

Example:
Quote

Once I saw this guy on a bridge about to jump. I said, "Don't do it!" He said, "Nobody loves me." I said, "God loves you. Do you believe in God?"

He said, "Yes." I said, "Are you a Christian or a Jew?" He said, "A Christian." I said, "Me, too! Protestant or Catholic?" He said, "Protestant." I said, "Me, too! What franchise?" He said, "Baptist." I said, "Me, too! Northern Baptist or Southern Baptist?" He said, "Northern Baptist." I said, "Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist or Northern Liberal Baptist?"

He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist." I said, "Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region, or Northern Conservative Baptist Eastern Region?" He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region." I said, "Me, too!"

Northern Conservative†Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1879, or Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912?" He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912." I said, "Die, heretic!" And I pushed him over.

Or...Catholocism is the Roman hijacking of Christianity.

Christianity is the Old Testament fulfilled...well, in part...there is still much more that needs to be done.
