billvon 3,133 #1 August 4, 2010 courtesy of Google Earth. Let's start at the proposed location: GZW1 An old Burlington coat factory. Now let's pan across the street to Ground Zero: GZW2 Hmm, that's not Ground Zero, that's another building. But we are intent on finding Ground Zero, so let's take a trip down the street. We're not going to be able to drive since the street is one way and the shortest distance to Ground Zero is the wrong way. But we'll walk since it must be very close by. GZW3 Now we're at the corner. Right there, across the street - is that Ground Zero? No, it's just another building under construction. There's an Amish store on the corner as well. This is fine since it's a non-offensive, even slightly amusing religion. GZW4 Now we've turned the corner. That tan building on the next block on the left must be Ground Zero. No? Hmm, it's just another building. But we are determined and we keep walking. So we walk along under the ubiquitous covered sidewalk until we can get clear to see down _that_ street. GZW5 Finally we can see Ground Zero. Not into the site itself, but the open area above it and a subway stop on the site itself. GZW6 Looking closer we can see the temporary PATH station. But we want to look at the site itself, so we walk down another block. oops, ran out of attachments - continued on next post
billvon 3,133 #2 August 4, 2010 GZW6 - The PATH station. If we were to continue for another block we'd finally reach the wall around Ground Zero. As is usual for Manhattan they have walls around pretty much everything they're building. Here's an aerial picture from 2006:
Skyrad 0 #3 August 4, 2010 Thats pants, if they're going to call it Ground Zero Mosque then they really need to move it closer or something. When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. Muslin is such a cheap fabric, I doubt it could ever raise much money.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.
