Same is true for market capitalization. Sure it used to be higher, but that was somewhat of an artificial situation in the aftermath of WW2 and the Cold War. But the reality remains that with 5% of the world population, the country still equals 25% of the world output. The country would be better off if it forced the freeloaders around the world to start paying for their own security. And for the first time in 14 years a US company is not in the number 1 spot. The biggest US company, WalMart, is a prime example of what I said. It completely relies on consumer spending, they don't actually fabricate or produce anything. The US consumer doesn't have any money right now. Though with the way the EU is suffering right now, it may not make it. All that talk about switching from the dollar to the Euro is taking a break while they watch Greece, Spain and the rest.
