rushmc 23 #1 July 22, 2010 As the song says, "You got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything". Gotta get elected then push the bs through I guess.. Quote Senate Democrats Abandon Comprehensive Energy Bill Thursday, 22 Jul 2010 03:00 PM Senate Democrats are giving up on plans to pass an energy bill that caps emissions of carbon dioxide, saying Republicans refuse to support the measure. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said no Republican was willing to back a comprehensive energy bill, a development he called "terribly disappointing." Democrats have been trying for more than a year to pass a plan that charges utilities and other major polluters for their carbon emissions. A compromise plan to limit emissions only from utilities also failed to attract the 60 votes needed to advance it in the 100-member chamber. Reid and other Democrats said they would focus on a narrower bill that responds to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and improves energy efficiency. © Copyright 2010 The Associated Press. billvon 3,111 #9 July 23, 2010 The republicans are rapidly becoming the Party of Nothing. GOP1: We have this image problem, see. No one knows what we stand for anymore. Do we condemn BP? Apologize to them? Support government spending when Obama cuts it? Oppose it when he raises it? Support foreign oil? Oppose US wind power? It's so hard to define a party like that. GOP2: I know! We can be the Party of Nothing! GOP1: What do you mean? How does that work? GOP2: Simple. What did you do today? GOP1: Well, uh, I opposed the energy bill, and I opposed a bill to help extend unemployment insurance, and I supported a Tea Party candidate. GOP2: Wait. You supported someone? What does he stand for? GOP1: He opposes Obama. GOP2: OK, perfect. So you basically opposed everything. Did you actually DO anything? GOP1: Well, no. GOP2: Perfect! That's our party. GOP1: What's our party? GOP2: Nothing. GOP1: But what IS IT? GOP2: It's NOTHING! That's the beauty. Energy bill? We oppose it. What;s our solution? Nothing. TARP? We oppose it. Our solution - nothing! GOP1: I think I get your drift. GOP2: And what can we be criticized for? Nothing! We don't do anything. Heck, the country can go to hell in a handbasket, and we can just continue to blame Obama. We do nothing and win! GOP1: Excellent! "Vote GOP - you'll get nothing and like it!" I am glad they are opposed to the unemployment extension. my daughter, like many, are sitting and waiting until the benifits run out. why take one of the 9 jobs that she has turned down when she makes $150 a month less on unemployment but has no travel costs. sitting and watching tv is better than working. Unemployment should end as it was designed and any job is better than no job. 2 parttime jobs works also. Some people will just have to suck it up and cut their spending. mnealtx 0 #13 July 23, 2010 Translation: WAAAAH the Republican minority won't let us pass our bills!! QuoteWell, uh, I opposed the energy bill Republicans submitted an energy bill last year, HR 2828 - it's been sitting in committee since Jun 18, 2009. Quoteand I opposed a bill to help extend unemployment insurance Republicans want the Dems to follow the Pay-Go law that Obama signed earlier this year. "President Barack Obama is hailing pay-as-you-go budget legislation he signed Friday night as one in a series of crucial steps needed to snap Washington out of a destructive pattern of overspending. “Now, Congress will have to pay for what it spends, just like everybody else,” Obama said in his radio and Internet address released Saturday morning."Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. Bolas 5 #14 July 23, 2010 First. That was a great Seinfeld parody. Second. Maybe nothing is exactly what we need the gov't to do now. Or maybe less than nothing, such as canning programs, repealing inconsistent regulations and subsidies and let capitalism function like it's supposed to again. A large part of the mess we're in is because of too much gov't intervention. You really think more is the answer? I'd vote for a candidate that said they'd do nothing. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
