I disagree. There was a vague accusation in there that we have some evil which needs to be replaced by scripture.

And it is quite laughable that we need to not conform to the world, but instead need to conform to their religion.

Posts like the OP are basically ancient writings tossed out as dogmatic fundie diatribe.

I do agree that if it works for someone, and they cause no harm to others, good on them. But assuming it is for everyone, or that everyone needs it, or pushing it like a door-to-door salesman is about as hypocritical as it gets.

If the intent to learn is there, then a an argument can be a good tool. But if its someone like Bill Mehr in Religulous(sp?) going to the "Truck Stop Chapel" to simply bash Christians and make them look stupid, and not really there to learn, then thats what I feel is wrong.

What if the intent is to learn how Ridiculous some beliefs are when ancient mythical stories are taken so literally?

There are a lot of Ridiculous beliefs out there. (Virgin births, zombies, flying reindeer, walking on water, etc.) Understanding them as stories told to convey a message is one thing; believing them to be literally true is Ridiculous.

I think if you wanna post feel good religous stuff then go ahead and post it in bonfire. If you post stuff like that here, you might not wanna be too surprised if some one has a different opinion.

The site specifically says to post religious stuff here in SC and not in the Bonfire. But yeah, since this is a place for discussion, expect to have people disagree with you.

Having people disagree with you is one thing. Belittling you is another thing all together

What about the OP? The clear inference in the quotes is that if you're not a proper, dedicated Christian your life is full of evil.

Do you judge that opinion by the same standard?
Do you want to have an ideagasm?

The OP said it was truth. Not just truth for Christians, unqualified truth for everyone.

Regardless of which, non-believers are free to care or not care as they wish. And if someone wants to take issue with a non-believer responding to the believer, they should judge the believer by the same standard.

True. But having posted in SC for a while, I've seen very few threads that weren't full of people belittling or otherwise just being nasty toward each other.

If I wanted to have a deep, serious conversation about something that was highly personal to me, I don't think I would bother to try it here. Especially if it was a topic that I would be hurt or offended by people disagreeing with me in a rude and unthoughtful manner.

--Know the Truth and the Truth will set you free.

---So what IS the truth?

I am glad you asked. " All scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness." II Tim 3:16
and especially "Jesus is the Truth, the way and the life." John 14:6

That is a good start, and it gets a lot better .

Or you could go with a reality based life.

Yes, that is something you should think about. Since insulting anothers beliefs is what you are choosing to do today

Why, it's the exact same thing he's doing. Expressing a belief. You're doing what you're criticizing him for.

1) I didn't insult him. In fact, I commended him on gathering strength from that belief.
2) I don't find your post insulting, although I find your reaction laughable - and horribly misplaced.
3) If he wasn't aiming the comment at 'us', the collective forum, why did he post it here?
4) What I was actually commenting on, in the post you quoted, was your reaction to a poster that was exactly what you were accusing him of.

You simply cannot state opinion as 'truth'. That much is a fact.

It's no different than me posting "God doesn't exist". I can't prove, or disprove his existence. I can only offer my opinion on it.

Yes you did ( I am agreeing wity your responce to me just to be clear)
You responded to my comment to jclalor. That is where I got crossed up.

His comment "Or you could go with a reality based life" was the snide remark I posted to. (I have to wonder is his reality the only one worth living?)

Sorry for my confusion.

What so often gets misunderstood in SC, as elsewhere in society, is that messages of encouragement are for those in need. Those folks tend to read, listen and contemplate. They tend not to respond.

Why, because of the inability to express their need.

I keep stats on my OP's and those expressing Christian truth have a vast outweighing of readers to responders. Take this one for example, compare the views to responses.

To those in need, take heart and be an be encouraged. The creator of the universe also created you. He knows you totally and He loves you.
Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.
