I know If Clinton had not seen fit to try yet again to redefine history we would not be here now Kind of like the twisting of the poem and meaning of the Statue of Liberty"America will never be destroyed from the outside, if we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves." rushmc 23 #6 July 3, 2010 http://www.digitalhistory.uh.edu/historyonline/lazarus.cfm Rom this link QuoteFor almost one hundred years, the Statue of Liberty has welcomed immigrants from around the world. But when she was installed on Bedloe's island in New York harbor, that had not been her purpose. The citizens of France gave the statue to the citizens of the United States in commemoration of both countries' commitment to "Liberty." Emma Lazarus, New York born and bred, had other ideas. Naming her "Mother of Exiles," Lazarus wrote her poem to that majestic lady in validation of the thousands of immigrants streaming through our "golden door." The Statue of Liberty would welcome the "wretched refuse," the rejects of European society, to a country which would transform them into the dynamic, creative, productive, inventive American citizens they would become. This was Emma's vision, a vision that would be fulfilled."America will never be destroyed from the outside, if we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves." quade 4 #7 July 3, 2010 Bravo Rush, a nice bit of selective quoting. You should read the rest of the article though. It talks about how Emma saw the plight of the people that had left their home countries and how hard they worked to fit in, yet where being persecuted by locals. She took upon herself to help them assimilate into the US by teaching them to, among other things, learn to speak and read English. I'm just curious when the last time it was that you went out of your way to help people fit in rather than just complaining about it?quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

Your posts seem to indicate you think you got us all figured out already on a daily basis On another note Until yesterday I thought as you did I heard a comment on the radio from a local host here in Iowa, wondered about it and went looking. I found out my view had some errors in it and so I learned something You find out your view had some errors in it and you get pissy with the one who posts about it"America will never be destroyed from the outside, if we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves." Byrd grew up old school and was a Democratic racist when that was fashionable in the south. Then the 1964 Civil Rts Act came along and things started to change and now the Yellow Dogs became Republicans and they were centered in the south. I don't know when Byrd finally figured out that his racism was BS, but he did, just as Malcolm X realized his approach was radical and pathetic. So the fact that people have an idiotic perspective isn't the rub, it's when they are too ideological to wake up and smell the roses. So the truth here is that morons who haven't figured it out yet are pissed at poeple like Byrd who have and who have changed. Do you honor a guy like Strom Thurmond who was one of those morons?
