If Microsoft wasn't going to do, VZW was going to help them. I read on another "blog" that internal numbers were showing that VZW managed to sell 500 across the country during that time....Given that, I give props to Microsoft for pulling the plug, and rolling that team over to the Windows Phone 7 project...hopefully, they'll share all the dirty details of failure so that 7 comes out shiny. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! Well there are a few other things tooJust for Mark Microsoft by the numbers Microsoft Blog Admin 25 Jun 2010 12:30 PM Comments 0 [UPDATE: We made an error in the reported figure for Apple’s Net Income in our original post – the cited source had the correct number but we somehow got a wrong number into the body of my post. This post has been updated with the correct figure.] You probably saw the news this week that we’ve sold 150 million Windows 7 licenses in 8 months. That's more than 600,000 per day. And, perhaps fittingly for a product called Windows 7, it adds up to 7 copies every second of every day since launch. As a communications guy, I’m generally most comfortable with words. But since Microsoft is a pretty numbers-driven company, the Windows 7 milestone got me thinking about some *other* numbers, too. Of course, numbers are only one dimension of a story. And we live in a hyper-competitive industry, with loads of challenges to go along with loads of opportunity. All the same, with Windows 7, Office 2010, Bing, Xbox 360, Kinect, Windows Phone 7, our cloud platform, and many other products, services and happy customers, 2010 is shaping up as a huge year for us. Add in how badly windows computers perform (my XP based computer got corrupted rather quickly) why in the hell would anyone want to willingly buy any computer with a microsoft based OS? The only reason the xbox took off was because HALO. People had a choice after that, pay $50 for xbox live, or buy a playstation. If you already have an xbox, the cheap way out is to purchase xbox live. This post was done on a droid phone. Microsoft blows goat penis (can't be said enough) I was bitching at the cafeteria this AM about that very topic. I bought a HP-2133 netbook last year, but because the SLED 10 (Suse Linux Enterprise Distro) version was unavailable, I had to pay the inevitable "Microsoft Tax" for the netbook.Oh well, I said Hasta la Vista anyway, and I'm now running a netbook-oriented variant of Ubuntu called Jolicloud - no problems so far. M$FT has already cut off support for XP SP2, and will phase out support for SP3 in 2014. When that happens, I am NOT migrating my Sager to Windows 7 "Starter Version" (WTF?!). I have been using a Sony Vaio VGN-NR490 for about 18 months with Suse after saying Hasta la Vista, and have never regretted it. Suse / Linux does everything. I really believe that consumers are starting to ask "Why for the endless obsolescence / upgrade cycle that makes all of my expensive equipment worthless every three years?!" And while I'm on my soapbox, I'll take this opportunity to bash "Trusted Computing" (aka "Treacherous Computing") which has so much potential for abuse by vendors that it completely outstrips the security features. mh ."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat." One of the sad facts it takes some people a lifetime to fully understand is that anytime a company or group of companies uses the word "trust" you need to run like hell. It's a bit like the anti-christ coming to earth. He's not going to be sporting a red suit, a pitch fork, horns and a tail. He's going to be wearing a very white bread, middle-of-the-road, jeans and cowboy shirt. Maybe even a cowboy hat. He's going to be holding a beer in his hand and he's going to speak in slow southern drawl. He's going to say, "trust me."quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

DUDE.... if you want to live life running ANYTHING not MSFT on outdated equipment... go for itThe fact is most of the hardware that was available for XP when it came out is ANTIQUATED... running new software...games..applications etc... just works like shit on that machine that was so rad with 512MB of ram and that huge 20 GB hard drive on the machineThe hardware moves on into the future.. faster procs... bigger hard drives.... laptops with 4GB of ram as a base amount. I am sure there are people that just love their 128k MAC's... but you are not going to run much of the modern software on them.
kelpdiver 2 #21 July 6, 2010 Quote The hardware moves on into the future.. faster procs... bigger hard drives.... laptops with 4GB of ram as a base amount. To perform the same role as before. The reason why netbooks were running XP was that Vista added baggage for no added benefit. 7 got leaner, so netbooks starting shipping with it instead, but again, does the newer OS really give this user segment any improvements? Hardly. The only reason my netbook has win on it is that I want to use Canon's raw camera file reader. Otherwise, it's a slam dunk for a unix install. Netbooks are not about faster and bigger, but instead about more portable and cheap. If you lose it on vacation, it's not the end of the world.
