These are exactly the kinds of situations for which tasers are designed to benefit everyone - both the cops and the victim. In the old days, granny could have just been shot to death, or a couple of cops could have been stabbed to death trying to be heroes.

WOW JUST WOW.... less than lethal on someone 87 years old can kill them... on her it just burned her severly..

yeah, lot of anger out there this week. The long weekend should be good for all.

What responsibility the police have to prevent suicides is the key. No doubt they could retreat and let her off herself. I'm all for this, but I believe people have that right. The law generally says otherwise and the cops have have been compelled to try to prevent. In that case, they do not have great options and the taser does beat out hand to hand combat with a knife wielder.
