All You "Anti" Gun Nuts!

You cherry picked a low year (2004) and completely ignored that the distribution varies month by month.

Even excluding suicides, we can expect 26 gun murders on a typical day using the MOST RECENT FBI data.

So if it's 26, then why lie with 80-100? I'd be fine with 3 in the entire state of California each day.

Supply your own data. I had to find suicides plus homicides for the same year. I doubt 2004 was all that special - the trendline in the 29s combined seems pretty solid right now.

And rounding up to 30k gets you 82/day. Sure, distribution varies, with a higher number in summer. but you're not going to get a range of 80-100 when the mean is 82. More like 50-120.

1. Smart people can manipulate statistics to support just about any argument.

2. This thread seemed to be about anecdotal evidence. You cited to four anecdotes.

3. I didn't argue that we should take away anyone's guns. You can have all the guns you want as far as I'm concerned. Hell, put an anti-aircraft battery in your backyard for all I care.

Hi Andy,
I like the part about the "anti-aircraft battery" and got ta' thinkin', lets try the "front yard" like in "1941" with Ackroid and Bellushi!! "Close man, close."

Gee, there appears to be some posters conspicuously absent in this thread.

If today is an average day in the USA, some 80 - 100 people will die from gunshots today.

Satisfied?

:|

And how many more in traffic accidents?

My point, "so what"?

You obviously won't try to tell any of us that automobiles should be outlawed, but you might say guns should? So give it up with the statistical platitudes.

And don't even start in on one is necessary and the other isn't. I'm not going to hear it.

I don't try to take away your right to free speech.

Would you "anti-gun-nuts" please quit trying to take away my right to own guns. YOU don't get to decide what is good for ME based on YOUR self opinion of moral higher-tude.

Yep-that's just how we roll down here

Yep, you break in a houae in SC there is high likelyhood that the homeowner has a gun. Obviously much higher than Chicago.

When a law abiding citizen is unarmed they are easy targets.
Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. I vote for Chicago where they have strict gun laws.

And if someone is willing to break the law and MURDER... They most likely will be willing to break the law and get an illegal gun.

Here is another one

Excellent!

Three more data points:

Husband comes to wife's rescue during robbery
"Deputies say clerk Grace Kelly - who is in her 70s - was closing the store for the night when several men walked in and tried to rob it. Kelly's husband - 78-year-old Angus Kelly - was in the parking lot waiting for his wife and came to her aid with a shotgun."

Man fatally shoots home invader
"A maintenance man at a Forestville apartment complex shot and killed a home invader Monday morning after the intruder forced the man into his apartment and fired a gun at him, police and law enforcement sources said. The maintenance man was able to retrieve his own gun inside his apartment and return fire, fatally wounding the intruder"

Store Owner Opens Fire on Robber
"Surveillance cameras were rolling as the owner of a carry-out in Elyria faced a life and death struggle, when a would-be robber tried to force his way into the store. The man eventually succeeded in getting through the door in the drive-thru, but the owner had a surprise for him, a gun she carries in her hip pocket."

Still having that reading comprehension problem, I see.

Go back and read what I write and not your incorrect interpretation of it before calling me a liar.

BTW how's that apology for the "cherry picking" lie of yours coming along?

So you agree that the restriction on felons owning guns is utterly stupid?

enforcing existing laws to keep felons from legally owning guns is fine - though only partly effective, it can't hurt

passing laws to restrict or complicate ownership by law abiding citizens, under the premise that it'll keep felons from getting guns, is utterly stupid

That is a case by case thing, Many non violent felons out there! making them have to work at it, and the 3 strike laws helps control that!

From this perspective yes. However that does not mean it should be easy for them to buy guns over the counter. And in the few cases they get caught with guns it is another tool that can be used to put them away for even longer
