Irrelevant opinions are just that; irrelevant. You need to learn some humility, JR, your opinions on the meaning of the Constitution are worth absolutely nothing.

So I guess you would have supported the Dred Scott ruling back then?

As far as I can tell, you guys are just cut and pasting bullshit out of NRA sources.

are they verbatim in any publicly available NRA sources? You should be able to show that without too much effort. (should you choose to do more than make assertions)

I will try to do that as time allows.;)

Phony quote.

http://www.history.ucsb.edu/faculty/marcuse/niem.htm

From your own source:

Quote

There are in fact several "correct" versions. Niemöller named different groups when he first coined the saying, probably in 1946, than when it was revived in the 1970s and he was again asked about it.

# The groups he mentioned in several 1946 speeches were (in order, see below):

1. Communists
2. Incurably sick
3. Jews or Jehovah's Witnesses (depending on which speech)
4. People in countries occupied by Nazi Germany.

# In 1976 Niemöller was asked about the quotation in an interview. The Martin Niemoeller Foundation in Germany takes his 1976 answer to be definitive [see: ]. In his long answer Niemoeller mentioned the following groups, and claimed that he started using the quotation only recently (at a 1974 event) :

1. Communists
2. Trade Unions
3. Social Democrats
4. Jews (sort of).

# I don't think that that 1976 statement reflects what Niemöller had said in the 1940s--he was 84 years old, and he might have forgotten that he had used it in speeches more than 30 years earlier. The first documented reference to the precise quotation that I know of is in a book first published in 1955, which is based on interviews conducted some time between 1950 and 1954. In that book it is likely that the interviewee added his own groups, namely "schools" and "the press." In any case, researcher/author Milton Mayer quotes a German professor he interviewed who refered to Niemöller having said:

1. Communists
2. Socialists
3. schools
4. the press
5. Jews
6. the Church (see Mayer, below for full citation)

So the ORIGINATOR of the quote had several different versions.

I wonder what the "Jews (sort of)" version was.:)

News:
Flood of Gun-Rights Suits Seen

Monday's high-court decision expanding gun rights will likely trigger a flood of litigation in states and cities with restrictive laws, so it could take years before the practical impact of the ruling is clear... Gun-rights groups are preparing to file suits in states with restrictive laws—in particular New York and California... Among the restrictions likely to be in play are assault-weapons bans, registration rules and state laws that give governments permission to suspend certain gun rights in emergencies. Wayne LaPierre, executive vice president of the National Rifle Association, said, "We're going to go everywhere cynical politicians attempt to pervert, defy or nullify the decision..."

Who (in your opinion) should lead the political debate and how should they do it?

Politicians. In the US Rush Limbaugh rules one of your parties. They even apologize to him.

Quote

I mean if you think those that dont agree with you are fed their opinions from Fox News I have to ask, who feeds you yours?

Its not a matter of agreeing or disagreeing with me. It is a matter of deliberately supplying false news and people swallowing it hook line and sinker.

My opinions do not feed of one news source, and certainly not only American news sources. Critical thought and investigation takes a serious backseat to entertainment value.

I mean CNN just hired the former Gov of New York to up its ratings....and somebody is supposed to take them seriously?

Then why do you say those with whom you do not agree with get their opinions fed to them???

Is that what the big bug brain is telling his scurrying minions to say now???

The response to this decision from the Violence Policy Center, one of the most whacko anti-gun organizations:

http://www.commondreams.org/newswire/2010/06/28-5

Note that they use the usual unethical tactics, such as lumping in suicides as "gun violence" to try and fool the public into believing that there are more murders than there really are, and also claiming that gun ownership is dwindling, while FBI background checks for gun purchases have been running at all-time highs. They also call this court case "frivolous", so I guess that they think the 2nd Amendment constitutional rights of the citizens of Chicago are unimportant. Oh, and attacks upon such gun restrictions are wrong because it forces cities to spend money to defend their unconstitutional laws. Oh the horror! Better to save money than to enforce constitutional freedom!

The Brady Campaign ignored the devastating ruling to their cause, and put a happy face on it:

http://www.bradycampaign.org/media/press/view/1265/

While raising a straw-man argument that never existed, in order to claim victory: "the Court has rejected, once again, the gun lobby argument that its ‘any gun, for anybody, anywhere’ agenda".

Funny stuff.

I would be funny if:

1 They weren't serious

2 People (like Daley and Bloomberg) didn't use that misinformation to further their own agenda

That you consider it that people "play with guns" is a bit of a clue toward the lack of seriousness with which you approach the subject.

Why would I be serious about gun rights in the US? We are talking about a country that gets riled up about only a few things:

For a guy that claims not to care one bit about guns, you have 663 postings in this forum that contain gun or guns. That's 8-9% of all your postings at DZ.

Come on...you can admit it. You care a lot about the subject.

Remember back in the old days of DZ.com (maybe you don't, I do) where people would talk about a "post to jump" ratio?

It would be interesting to see what the "overall post to gun post" ratio is for a few folks. It wouldn't really mean anything in the grand scheme of things for most people, but as the number got closer to 1:1 I'd almost have to question their motives for being here at all.

Probably would need to know the SC ratio overall to set your baseline. Pulling a number out of thin air, guns might be 10%. The Bush decision on Iraq is probably 10% as well. Obama deficits are in the next category, along with 9/11 conspiracies, CDIF (lower only because it happened longer ago).

Great social science for someone with absolutely nothing better to do.

Cause people keep making claims like, they are going to overthrow the government with their guns. Or, another one of my favourites, how an armed society is a polite society.

I have no issue with your 2nd amendment right, or how many guns you own. I do find that the "justification" brought forward doesn't make a whole lot of sense (other than that it is a right granted under your constitution).

If you are tieing number of posts, caring and subject together, I feel very sorry for most posters in the Bonfire.

But, if it makes you feel better......I care very much about your gun rights. It really keeps me up at night.

Like I said - someone with absolutely nothing to do could quickly disprove this claim - you just can't resist. But that's not me. I'll only go as far as a count with a useful search engine.

He votes. His opinion has value. 1/the voting population of Texas. More if he can be persuasive as an advocate.

Which again asks the question - are you a citizen and entitled to vote? If not, then yes, your opinion is worth absolutely nothing. And since you prefer to play games rather than argue a subject on the merits, you're persuading no one else.
