wmw999 2,603 #3 June 18, 2010 I think your poll missed the "zero tolerance rules are stupid" option Wendy P.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

Andy9o8 3 #6 June 18, 2010 QuoteI think your poll missed the "zero tolerance rules are stupid" option Exactly - the problem with zero tolerance policies is that, by definition, there are no "reasonable exceptions", mainly because if it applies to everyone, then you don't have to worry about being accused of "unequal treatment" if you apply an exception to one person, but not another. Simple - no discretion = no potential abuse of discretion. Of course, then when you're faced with a situation where clearly you should make an exception, but don't, you look like an idiot. So I guess the thinking is "better to look like an idiot than to get sued." Goddamn lawyers.
