Supreme Court nominee Kaga compares the NRA with the KKK?

Did Kagan Compare the NRA with the KKK?

It has become clear that Elena Kagan, Obama’s most recent Supreme Court nominee, is no friend of gun rights, to say the least. While clerking for Supreme Court justice Thurgood Marshall in 1987, she wrote the judge that she was “not sympathetic” to a Second Amendment–based challenge to the D.C. gun ban. While serving in the Clinton administration, she wrote a memo that “paved the way for an executive order banning dozens of semiautomatic weapons,” according to the L.A. Times.

And National Review has learned that in 1996, Kagan apparently tied the NRA to the KKK — yes, the KKK — while debating the Clinton administration’s position on a bill...

I sure hope the RW will go with this asinine strategy. Do you think the NRA is going to want to be in the headlines, associated constantly (rightly or wrongly), with the KKK?

ETA: NRA! KKK! NRA! KKK! NRA! KKK!

First of all, it's not a strategy, not by the "RW", or anyone else, at this point. It's just something newly uncovered from the old Presidential library files. And those things need to be reviewed, for someone nominated for the lofty lifetime position of the supreme court.

Second, I don't think the NRA would mind this story becoming widespread, as I think the general public understands that NRA members are not the equivalent of KKK members. All this story would do is make people throwing such allegations look foolish, and without credibility. And when the NRA's opponents look like idiots, then the NRA gains.

So, what guns do you own?

This (the editorial linked) is a childishly amateur attempt to spin the facts of the process that was taking place. If this is the best the RW's oppo research can come up with, Kagan's a shoo-in. Nobody who is not a drooling FoxNews addict would pay attention to this shit. One more thing to make the Republicans look silly and desperate on Election Day. So yeah, I hope they go for it.

Did Kagan Compare the NRA with the KKK?

No.

A guy asked her in a memo about a list that DIDN'T include them made by the IRS.

Whoo hoo? Big fucking deal?

Wait a minute - this is from a memo from 1996, right?

So how can that POSSIBLY have anything to do with current events?

Considering the premise of the article pointed directly to that memo as a fact and was shown to be ridiculous it means the article was ridiculous in its premise.

A document in historical records is a fact.

I think we'd all agree, for instance, the US Constitution is a fact. The words are what they are. They're written on paper and anyone that cares to verify them can do so independently.

Attempting to use an old and inaccurate blog post disingenuously in an attempt to sway public opinion is just that - disingenuous.

When somebody copies and pastes an inaccurate article from several years ago here thinking it is about current events, I don't think the guy is necessarily attempting to be dishonest, he's just woefully naive in copying and pasting talking points. What I find hilarity in is when it's pointed out to him and he attempts to defend the old, inaccurate piece of tripe as having relevance to today's news.

Seriously, people should learn to Google better.

I'm saying the premise of the article's headline was ridiculous to begin with.

As to its relevance to today's news, asked and answered.

Come up with something new.

So you don't think that Mexico is angry about the AZ immigration laws? They have not voiced any comments on the matter or held any protests?

OMG! You're not suggesting that JR hasn't actually seen that piece before are you? The amount of space, hate and hot air he's generated concerning it could fill a book.

No, but it's so totally appropriate for this thread, it should be included for completeness B|
