Afgahnistan's "Newly Found" Mineral Resources

Recommended Posts

The Report is kind of questionable about how new the find is. There are rumors that the Soviets found a lot of these resources back in the 50's, which might account for why they were in Afghanistan in the 80's.

But either way, what do you think it will do for Afghanistan? Will it fuel there economy and bring them out of the state of war they have been in for the last 1,000 years or will it fuel a corrupt government and lead to more death and destruction?

Right now they are saying anywhere between 1 and 3 Trillion dollars worth of Gold, Copper, Iron, and they could take over as the leading Lithium producers in the world. With Lithium battery technology taking off, this could be big news for their country.

Will this bring them into the 21st century or fund the Taliban?

It should really rock in about 1000 years when they are ready to enter the 2nd millenium of the common era

It will do both.

Afghanistan has been at war with itself for centuries, and that will continue. Sadly I think mineral wealth will just allow that to happen at a much more violent pace.
