billvon 3,133 #2 June 14, 2010 Looks like they have joined the GOP and the Tea Partyers themselves in 'declaring war' on things. It's edgy, fun and gets you news coverage! ====== (from the Ohio Liberty Council, a right wing political organization) In recent weeks the Ohio Republican Party (ORP) begged primary votes for candidates of their choosing, sending postcards and mailers which contain a logo of, “Support Tea Party Values.” This new logo was used for Jon Husted (GOP endorsed Secretary of State candidate) and others. What’s wrong with this? Nothing, except leaders in the Tea Party movement, like myself, would hardly consider him or the Ohio Republican Party supportive of “Tea Party Values.” The ORP also paid for direct mail in State Central Committee races (basically races for the ORP Board of Directors). Why is this suspicious? Because the ORP broke its own rules by endorsing and funding candidates where an endorsement vote never happened. Equally suspicious, this loophole doesn’t apply to incumbents only since the ORP only funded candidates not associated with an actual Tea Party group. Yes, they are only funding candidates who will protect them, not Tea Party people. In short, the ORP strategy is – use “Tea Party Values” when helpful in a race, but don’t let “Tea Party” people into the mix when it inhibits ORP agenda. Husted and the ORP have declared war on the Tea Party movement by stealing the brand of the Tea Party, leading voters to believe they have always supported “Tea Party Values.” ============== Rick Barber -- a Tea Party Republican competing in a congressional run-off down in Alabama -- is airing the first TV ad this reporter can remember that advocates taking up arms against the United States. Seriously. In the ad (below), Barber has a discussion with men dressed up as America's founding fathers. "I would impeach him," Barber says at the beginning, obviously a reference to impeaching President Obama. Barber continues, "Today we have an Internal Revenue Service that enforces what they call a 'progressive' income tax... Now this same IRS is going to force us to buy health insurance, cram it down our throats or else. Now I took an oath to defend that [the U.S. Constitution] with my life, and I can't stand by while these evils are perpetrated. You, gentleman, revolted over a tea tax! A tea tax! Now look at us. Are you with me?" One of the men dressed like a U.S. founding father -- George Washington? -- replies, "Gather your armies." And to drive home the point, there are clear images of pistols in the ad. ==============
