Amazon 7 #1 June 3, 2010 http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/37492667/ns/world_news-americas/ SANTIAGO, Chile - A Dutch man long suspected in the disappearance of an Alabama teen in Aruba was detained Thursday in Chile in the murder of a young woman in Peru. Stephany Flores, 21, was killed in a Lima hotel on Sunday, five years to the day after Holloway disappeared. The suspect, Joran van der Sloot, was escorted by three police officers as he was taken from a dark vehicle into a police office in downtown Santiago, Chile. He made no comment as he entered, walking calmly and without handcuffs as journalists shouted his name
BillyVance 35 #2 June 3, 2010 I have always believe that Joran was a douchebag, who benefited from having a dad who was a prominent judge in Aruba, and from the botched Aruban investigation in the Holloway disappearance. davjohns 1 #3 June 3, 2010 Wow. When the boy wasn't found quickly, I thought the girl's father had Van Der Sloot's ticket punched.I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.
davjohns 1 #4 June 3, 2010 I think the defense attorney will have to play it as a frame job. What else could you do? If the investigation can find proof of Joran's presence in that motel room and on the body of the dead woman in the form of dna, a strand of hair, etc., I'd say it's a pretty good case for the prosecution. Joran and the girl were seen going in, and Joran was seen leaving alone hours later. Let's hope the Peruvians don't fuck this up like the Arubans did. masterrig 1 #11 June 3, 2010 I hope, all his self-claimed lies don't get him off this time. The arrogant piece of shit should never have gotten past Aruba. I hope too, the police handle this more 'professionally' than the Holloway case in Aruba. We'll just have to watch and see how it goes. Chuck

I find the 5 year anniversary timing quite amazing though. The investigation wasn't "botched". It just didn't happen. Because once they found out that the most likely suspect was the son of a judge, they stopped looking. The stories of the level of corruption/protection in Aruba that came out after the Holloway girl disappeared were widespread, consistent and very, very disturbing. We bitch pretty hard about how unfair the courts can be here in the US, but we are head and shoulders above a lot of the rest of the world. Andy9o8 3 #25 June 14, 2010 There have been leaks every day from the police with lots of details about the interrogations and negotiations with his lawyers. It's a good thing for the prosecution that that's not taking place in the US; because if it were, the ability to take this guy to trial on anything would be critically endangered by now. Gotta love the Third World; they never fail to remind us just how good most of the rest of us have it where we live.
