I thought our current tax system is already based on 'voluntary compliance, just like traffic lights'... not the common sense version of course, but the government's definition, where you get thrown in jail for not voluntarily complying.

This sounds like someone who is trying to use philosophy to explain why that person doesn't want to obey the rules. It's too bothersome or laziness to go with established rules so lets throw a paradigm shift to weasel out. Funny thing is, this is why there are so many rules out there to begin with: People "nuking" the puropse of the rules and make conceptual errors in thinking therefore loosing touch with why the rules are there in the first place. The enforcers quit trying to explain after a while and just shake heads while doing the arrests.

It just like everything else with government...with every loss, they just print more more cash that lines only the elitist's pockets...albeit, sometimes they're a little more creative.

There's nothing in the law that says you have to pay any income tax at all. Just don't have an income and income tax goes away. You're perfectly free to live on vast sections of government land completely rent free as well.

It's only if you want to reap the generous benefits of society and all it has to offer that you're expected to contribute to it. The more you benefit and the higher the lifestyle, the more you're expected to contribute.

Actually, to me, taxes as a general concept seem pretty fair.
