gregpso 1 #1 May 21, 2010 Someone is kidding me right. I have been told cleaning staff at Disney World hotels get around $4.50 per hour !! It cannot be true can it ? has any one in yor great land heard of unions. In Australia it would $15 to $18 per hour. No wonder my upcoming trip to DW is so cheap. Staying at Pop century hotel for 8 nights all theme park admissions free transport AND FREE COUNTER SERVICE DINING (spec promo) for the fall for $1315 per couple.. very good value Lucky I paid a few weeks ago before the aussie dollar died on the arse or ass as you say) Was 94 US now 82 US because bastard traders lump our economy with basket cases like greece, Anyway I will tip the cleaning staff a couple of bucks per day whilst staying at Disney World. Anyone got any advice on Disney World in OrlandoI tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??

wolfriverjoe 1,523 #3 May 21, 2010 I kinda doubt it. Minimum Wage in Florida is $7.25/hr. They may or may not be unionized, but with the economy/labor situation we have, I don't think they are going to make much more than minimum. I think Disney is too big to be hiring illegals under the table (I could be wrong on that)."There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Disney itself wouldn't, but whoever they contracted the night work to could (and frequently does). Disney follows the rules pretty much to the letter of the law. They'll go right to the edge, but won't pass it. Any time they break it, it's almost always unintentional. They do, however, contract out a LOT of the behind the scenes night work. Those companies are supposed to play by the rules and Disney checks on them, but they're all notorious for cutting corners. More so in Florida than Anaheim due to unions and labor law differences between the states. This is also the same type of deal you frequently hear about with Walmart. The day shift employees are almost always being handled within the strict letter of the law, but the night contractors cut corners.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
davjohns 1 #5 May 21, 2010 Agreed. Disney is a popular target for rumors. With that many employees, some are waiting to sue them. They can't do really stupid things like that.I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

This is not unlike being a waiter or waitress. It's somewhat different - It's expected (in America) to leave a % of your bill as a tip for the hand-out-stretched-waiting-staff but not so much for the generally unseen domestic staff in a hotel (or restaurant for that matter). Hardly alike at all in fact. (.)Y(.) Chivalry is not dead; it only sleeps for want of work to do. - Jerome K Jerome

Hardly alike at all in fact. Times they are a changing . . . Maids/Housekeeping Staff -- A wide range is acceptable here, depending on the level of extra service and hotel level, but generally from $1-$5 per night. It is best to do your tipping daily, since you might have different people cleaning your room. Whatever you decide to leave, be sure to put the money in a sealed envelope, clearly marked, so there is no confusion as to who it belongs to. Yes, I thought of WalMart's (subcontracted) night cleaning crew being illegals after I posted that. (I'm glad I left the "could be wrong" out) But there's also a lot of hate for American based multi-national companies. Disney isn't a bunch of saints, but they aren't as bad as some would like you to think. WalMart is, but not Disney"There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." quade 4 #14 May 21, 2010 QuoteDisney isn't a bunch of saints, but they aren't as bad as some would like you to think. Well, I've never heard of them intentionally killing anyone. Accidentally, sure, out of maintenance neglect, but not on the scale of say . . . BP. So, they certainly have been a bit evil. The Company also has a long standing tradition, even pride, in being anti-union whenever they can do anything about it. They also don't always play fair with artists that give blood, sweat and tears to make them money hand over fist . . . but I guess that's just good business. Still, I'd rather be on one of their sets or post facilities than a lot of others in town.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

captain1976 0 #20 May 25, 2010 QuoteYou are woefully underestimating how much the brass at Disney can make per year. I really don't know what the brass makes but I assume it in the 6 and 7 figures. But outside of the CEO and a few other specialists, Disney hires from within. Its a great opportunity for many. If you start at a low paying position and take the initiative and get some education, you will move up fast. You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
