How do you know that he hasn't? The property isn't new. Any rich person could have bought it. You have no idea of the level of sustainability that is involved in its upkeep under Gore's ownership. It always amazes me thats staunch supporters of big business have such a hard time with Al Gore getting rich. Quite frankly, I wish I would have thought of it. Bingo. Al Gore is laughing all the way to the bank. The guy's a brillinat capitalist - he CREATED a market! And he is making gazilions off of it. He decided that televangelists make a fortune by predicting fire and brimstone in hell and letting them know that they know the way to a future with cooler temperatures by telling others how to live sin free lives - while blowing guys in bathroom stalls. Al Gore foretells fire and brimstone - a hell on earth! Meanwhile, he can explain to people that he has the solution and others should live a carbon minimal life - all the while flying cross-country in private jets and neglecting to even ensure that his Nashville estate's incandescent bulbs are turned off when nobody's using them. kelpdiver 2 #49 May 20, 2010 Quote Why don't you folks go research "sustainability" and report back when you actually know something. It takes no research to know that if Americans gravitate to even larger houses, that we'll be even further away from any reasonable claim of sustainability. In 2006, he used 221,000 KWh for his first resident/office. That's 605/day. I average around 15. If you added my office environment in, I doubt that would even double it to 30. And of course the global average is well below 15/day, and still we're said to be well in excess of what the world climate can tolerate. So again, how does adding onto the already ridiculous 600/day make for sustainability. The private flying only adds to this. There are many reasons for private jets, but environmentalism isn't one of them.
lawrocket 3 #50 May 20, 2010 Quote Why does Bill Gates? If Bill Gates was found to be using Macs, it might be comparable. QuoteWhy did Ken Lay need 8 homes? He didn't. He was a greedy SOB. QuoteWhy don't you folks go research "sustainability" and report back when you actually know something. Sustainability would require that people not do what Gore is doing. This is, of course, unless one wants to grant exceptions to a chosen group whose hearts apparently lie in the right place. In order for Mr. Gore's lifestyle to be sustainable, billions of other people MUST get by on much less. Mr. Gore - and those like him - come from a position of privilege. There will be the requirement for others to lower their energy usage. Not for him. I don't have a problem with inequity. I do have a problem with those who would exempt themselves from the standards they set for others. My wife is hotter than your wife.
