Gawain 0 #51 May 20, 2010 QuoteLooks like LA covered them selves from the lights going out http://www.ladwpnews.com/go/doc/1475/555479/ I don't think that covers anything. If anything it puts LA at further exposure. 1. They don't run the plants. 2. They get some revenue from them. If things get nasty, then that's lost revenue for LA too...So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! billvon 3,120 #54 May 21, 2010 >Every welfare family in the state needs a new couch . . . Well, good! California is paying for Arizona's welfare, so looks like the Arizona welfare queens will be able to afford that couch. We have also built a few power plants in Arizona that we're making some money on selling them power. If either of those things bother them, they should feel free to return the money and not buy the power. If not, then they should probably keep quiet and accept the welfare we give them. How does California pay welfare to Arizona? What percentage of the powerplants in Arizona does California own? James

quade 4 #57 May 21, 2010 Because of its population density and wealth of citizens, California puts more money into the Federal system than it gets back. Arizona, on the other hand, take in more money than it gives. billvon 3,120 #59 May 21, 2010 >So - you believe that with higher poulation, you have less needs, thus >the overages are then sent to AZ? Nope. As a whole, California pays more to the Federal Government than they get back. As a whole, Arizona takes more than they pay. So it's a good thing that Arizona has states like California willing to carry the "welfare states." If this really bothers them, they can always give the money back; I am sure the Federal government would be happy to not send so much money their way. If not, then no problem. We'll keep supporting them even when they say stupid shit.

"Red" states tend to be more rural, without the large cities to provide masses of workers that the blue states have. Due to that, they tend to be on the negative side of the scale in regards to federal money received vs. federal taxes paid. So, while what bill and kallend are saying is *technically* true, it's misleading. California 2010 budget gap, 6.6 billion. Arizona 2010 budget gap, 1.9 billion.Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. billvon 3,120 #66 May 22, 2010 >"Red" states tend to be more rural . . . . . . and thus receive a lot more in farm subsidies than the blue states (among other differences.) Which raises another interesting point. Once they lose that cheap farm labor, they may take yet another hit as the farms start to go under. But I have a feeling California will continue to support them nevertheless.
