Who's gonna PAY??????

Recommended Posts

So Arizona wants to ship back all of the illegals. I get the intent. So who is going to pay to ship them all back to, Mexico, Canada, Europe, Central America, Asia, etc.? Illegals come from more than just Mexico. Sometimes I'm not sure anyone thinks these issues through at all before they appease the voters.

Deport them through Uganda. At $4 a pound, we could turn a profit.

I'd bet they'll round them all up and call ICE for a handoff.

Same buyer as everything else: the working class taxpayer. How surprising.

Pshaw...the working taxpayers don't even cover the interest on all we borrow these days. Optimistically, new debts will be payed by our children and grandchildren. Realistically? Maybe China...maybe nobody.

the savings on things like health care and food stamps alone will pay for the deportation of millions. the jobs opened up that are taken by citizens will reduce welfare and unemployment costs.

it is cheaper to hire a grayhound bus to take a bussload back to mexico than paying for 1 baby to be born here.

Bullshit. Money lost in health care will belong to the hospital districts that are largely paying for indigent care now -- the feds reimburse for some of that, but not most. Or would it "trickle over?"

How much do you think is lost in the food stamp program (which at least has money that can be re-allocated to "ship illegals")? The last GAO study showed that only about 2% of households were paid illegally, and that only about 5% was overpaid. Oh -- and in my personal experience (I used to work for the food stamp program in the 1970's), a lot of times when overpayments happen it's because of a worker error, not an applicant error.

Food stamps and welfare cannot be allocated for illegal aliens. It's a disqualifying item. I had to ask for the green card when in any sort of doubt as far back as 1974. They can be allocated for the legal children of illegal aliens.

It's not that it's OK to have an ilegal alien problem. But generally if there is a seemingly simple solution to a complex problem, it's probably not the solution.

Illegal imigratition costs california billions in welfare food stamps medical judicial and inmate costs, and not just 1 billion but tens of billions each year. unemployment is higher because of illegal workers. California could probably balance their budget if the illegals were sent home. Also just because they should not get food stamps and welfare doesn't mean they don't.

Any anchor baby makes the funds available. Most anchor babies are paid for by us. and just because the feds don't reimburse for indegent care doesn't mean we are not paying for it. If the hospital doesn't show a loss from the care the health costs go down thus reducing our insurance premiums. either way we save and mexico or were ever they came from pays.

Occam's razor would indicate otherwise. I understand it is somewhat more complex than, "They are here illegaly. Send them back." But not much.

A national cable company recently put underground cable in my new subdivision. There were fifteen guys digging holes all down the street. I asked one a question. Then another. We finally agreed that none of these guys spoke English; only Spanish.

Our unemployment rate is at a remarkable high. Something seems wrong here.
I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet..

But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

Does anyone penalize the employers for hiring illegals? Or do they reward them, instead (by giving more business to the people who hire underpaid workers).

Can't have it both ways.

I think that we can all agree that the simple solution isn't always the best solution. Almost never is there only one solution to a problem.

Shipping them all back from whence they came would cost a pile of money, yes, but I think the bigger problem is the turmoil that would be left behind until all those jobs were filled. Then prices would go up for many things. For instance a local roofing contractor I drink beer with from time to time explained one night that were he to hire guys to work jobs for him he'd have to cover them under his insurance which would cost almost as much as what he would pay them. (assuming they took the contractor rate) Instead, he sub contracts his jobs out to a team and thus off-loads the liability (or a lot of it) to a contractor.

The "good" solution is all the illegals register and start paying taxes. That isn't going to happen any time soon, so someone needs to come up with the least sucky solution.

2/3 of illegal immigrants pay federal taxes including Medicare and Social security.

They're ineligible for Medicare, Social Security, and nearly all means-tested government programs including food-stamps, Medicaid, and housing assistance (We can thank model conservative Bill Clinton for signing the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996).

In other words, those guys pay for the rest of us.

With the average income tax rates negative for the first two quintiles and the low earning half of the country providing only 3% of our income tax revenues we're not missing much from the rest.

And what will it cost the legal system? Are we going to deport people without due process? How much to jail them all until they are sent back, and not just to Mexico. And how do we send them? So if you can't prove you are a US citizen, how long will you have to provide documentation? And do they release you or jail you until you can prove your status? Will the packers at the DZ all be deported too?????:P
