rushmc 23 #1 April 26, 2010 As many have stated. The stimulas and TARP were sluch funds to cover earmarks not voted on and secure votes and allies It goes for both parties IMO But in the end, Obama can claim nothing when it comes to the economy. And if the spending keeps up, what he will be held accountable for is not be something to brag on http://money.cnn.com/2010/04/26/news/economy/NABE_survey/ QuoteNEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- The recovery is picking up steam as employers boost payrolls, but economists think the government's stimulus package and jobs bill had little to do with the rebound, according to a survey released Monday. In latest quarterly survey by the National Association for Business Economics, the index that measures employment showed job growth for the first time in two years -- but a majority of respondents felt the fiscal stimulus had no impact. And you can bet he and the Democrats will campaign like hell claiming that credit. It could be an inversion of the 80s elections where the GOP kept pulling out Carter the boogeyman as the risk if you ever dared to vote for the Democrats. Obama would then become Black Reagan. billvon 3,120 #8 April 26, 2010 >30% will kinda credit Obama >30% will note it's in spite of Obama and credit the 'other' team Agreed. But elections are won by soundbites, and the soundbite will be "are you better off now than you were four years ago?" And if the economy recovers, most people will be. And I agree with your statment for sure But I do not think recovery is in the cards if two things are not addressed 1, Gov spending the economy can not recover if the current rate of spending vs the GDP continues 2, Taxes If taxes are increased in any great amount the economy will not recover either Time will tell For the country and the people I hope Obama gets credit for a recovery. To me that is more important than who is in power"America will never be destroyed from the outside, if we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves." billvon 3,120 #11 April 26, 2010 >1, Gov spending >the economy can not recover if the current rate of spending vs the GDP >continues I agree - but it will take far more than a few years for that to make itself felt. >2, Taxes >If taxes are increased in any great amount the economy will not recover >either Historically tax increases (and democratic control of at least the presidency) correlate to improvements in the economy and growth of the GDP. Correlation does not imply causation, but it does suggest that they are more likely to happen concurrently.

kelpdiver 2 #14 April 26, 2010 QuoteQuoteObama would then become Black Reagan. I hope not. Tripling our national debt would make it, what? Around 40 trillion dollars? Well, he is on track to doubling it with 10T new debt. But if you look at absolute amounts of debt and adjust for inflation, Reagan would be better - he didn't generate 5T in debt.
