Its a reality they have to deal with, and unlike so many this officer is being truthfull in telling the people he can't protect them all.

If I lived along the border, and didn't have the means to move, I'm not sure what I'd do. The cartels, the criminal organizations that support them and the criminal street gangs that support them (think of it as a supply chain with security) are not limited to just the border. Its not just limited to Texas. Violence has spread well north of the border, as have the criminal instruments at work. One of the first things that cities cut the budget for in a time of need is the police departments. Parks maintain a better budget then the police. Some may see this as a good thing, but there are real world consequences to not having the officers. Even worst is that when the police budget gets cut, the first thing to get cut with in the department is the training budget. The most expensive things to train are firearms and driving. Those are two of the more important and some of the highest liability for the department. In a perfect world, there would be a perfect budget. This, however, is not a perfect world. Furthermore, being an imperfect world the perfect response is to prepare yourself to protect yourself and your family against what ever threat you deem a danger to your family.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." So they get out on the highways here and write more tickets so they can still buy all their new toys to ride around in. Talk about increasing taxes. FUCKING HYPOCRITES.... I have yet to see one of them.. or the crooked judges who feed off of them in the traffic courts do the speed limit or even close to it either
rhaig 0 #12 April 13, 2010 reminds me of one night at skydive USA (now long defunct) sitting across from a whuffo who decided to buy beer and stick around, and next to a DPS officer/jumper. The whuffo started railing on cops, and the officer next to me gave me a look like "let it go", then she started egging him on. Eventually he looked at us both and said "one of you is a cop aren't you!! (fucking pigs)" and wandered off.-- Rob

FUCKING HYPOCRITES.. Come cut some dead bodies out of cars with me. How about some dead teenagers? Did that more than few times last year. Already a few times this year. Yup, its about money to everyone involved!Anyways, look at the totality of the situation. The level of danger involved by the drug cartels and the criminal street gangs they run in the US is not understood by most outside of border areas.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Yup, its about money to everyone involved! It's always tough to cut any services. Police really feel that they directly help people, and that the service they perform is very valuable to the community. (And generally they're right.) So do social workers, FAA inspectors, CDC workers, air traffic controllers, soldiers, government meteorologists and school board members. Which is why even the best intentioned plan to cut taxes runs afoul of such groups eventually. "Well, sure, I'm all for cutting the fat, but you can't cut the CDC! People will die, people I could save!"

stratostar 5 #18 April 14, 2010 Yea but if we draw a line in the sand, a 100yd no mans land on our side, mark it VERY well for all to see and know about it....... Then if your in that area coming north we can just open up fire with no warning and light them motherfuckers up! Add in a few land mines for the scatter too. Jesus and his pals would soon thing twice about stepping into the line of fire. You want a fund and have a drug war, then make it a real war like front and start the shooting of anything that moves across the line at non entry points with no questions asked. regulator 0 #19 April 14, 2010 Wholly crap I can't believe I'm agreeing with Amazon. But lets face it. I lived in North Dallas for 10 years. The Addison police department has approximately 15-20 members on their force...(its a small town right in north dallas) every two years they are buying brand new rides for everyone in their departments. When I left they were all issued new tahoe's and when I came back three years later,I saw a few addison police driving damn escalades. They should all get a base line model with enough power to be in pursuits but not enough to drain their budgets. My father has been in law enforcement since the 1950's in Houston. He was stabbed in the back while serving an arrest warrant in the 3rd ward in 1954. As far as tickets go...if you drive on 288 (runs parallel to spaceland) at the end of the month, you can see DPS lining up on both sides of the road trying to get their quota. The last time I counted a few weeks ago I saw 11 DPS cops on a stretch of road that is 35 miles long.
