wow

Imagine if Jesus and God had shared their knowledge and abilities of particle physics with us 2000 years ago, we could have built the Hadron collider that much sooner and had gotten that much farther ahead in research all these years.

What a bunch of wankers for not letting us in on those cool secrets!! And now they expect us to WORSHIP them? get real.....

Makes sense to me. The few facts He gave about the most important issues in the universe are still a mystery to a lot of people. To much unrelated information would probably just confuse those people even more. God reveals His Spirit to us personally and leaves His physical creation for us to discover.

The few facts He gave about...

'He' gave us no facts - we actually discovered them ourselves.....lightning causes fire, smash nuts with a rock, build tools, count to ten because we have ten fingers and toes, add subtract, multiply, evolved thumbs, asked questions and then answered them through research, just as monkeys do today, one step at a time.

'We', not 'He' did all that.....

Fact #1 God so loved the world that He gave is only begotten Son so whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.

Fact #2 For this is the judgment, that the Light is come into the world and men loved the darkness rather than the Light for their deeds were evil.

Fact #3For everyone who does evil hates the Light and does not come to the Light lest his deeds should be exposed.

Sorry, those aren't facts.

Those are beliefs.

There's a pretty big difference.

FWIW, I mostly agree with #1, but have a lot of problems with #2 and #3.

If God created man in his own image, how is it that men are evil?

Flawed, and mortal, and sinful. Yes. We often mess things up, and are fully capable of being selfish to the point of being evil.

But not inherently evil.

Some pretty decent guy way back when walked around and told people how nice it would be if we'd all be decent to each other.

Douglas Adams noted that this guy got nailed to a tree for his trouble.

Like many others, a power structure rose up around this terrible event in order to manipulate the ignorant (instead of just a bunch of people following the advice to be nice to each other).

thousands of years later, they are still exploiting the people

oh, and a few other groups said "me too" and started their own brand of exploitation with pretty much the same story and different levels of aggression and intolerance of the other power structures

the neat thing is that like 90% of the human race wants to be exploited

the other 10% are completely under control of similar religions called political parties - many are under control of combinations of several

Granted, it's been a while since I've been a Catholic, but this "scientist" isn't even getting his religious history right. Jesus didn't dematerialize. He died and was buried (and then supposedly rose again). As far as I know, nobody has ever claimed that his physical body disappeared and then reappeared. Also, given that the only carbon-14 dating that has been done on the Shroud of Turin showed that it was likely created shortly before it was unveiled in the 13th or 14th century, I don't know if I'd be using it to support my "scientific" argument in support of Jesus.

Very good summation; except you forgot to make room for the portion that takes The Path Of X.

I agree, God created us perfect and sinless like Himself. He also created us with a free will like His own. We create evil when we choose a reality that is antithetical to God's.

I leave the H O Terms as an insignificant percentage that can be covered under a different but meaningful summary elsewhere. However -

I suspect most of those will still eventually fall under some poorly constructed belief system anyway and could be moved to one of my main categories. (Their own protestations to the contrary considered and then used as proof of my flawless stereotyping of all humans :D).

That is an absurd absence of logic.

Rather like claiming there must be a creator because something can't come from nothing, without applying the same rule to the creator herself.

That suggests that making no decisions and doing nothing puts us in a perfect state of sinless grace. That doesn't seem to hold in the real world though.

Deciding not to decide is a decision.

no, but it does seem to create executives in many engineering companies
