Andy9o8 2 #2 March 22, 2010 This November's Congressional election will be that vote. I hope McCain & his gang keep acting like butt-buggered baby sows in the face of this. It will guarantee a reversal of the usual Sophomore Slump trend (where a President's party tends to lose seats in Congress in his 2nd year in office). billvon 3,120 #4 March 22, 2010 >Seems the poeple are speaking again, yet government (and koolaid >drinkers) are not listening! Exactly! See, when 48% are against and 45% of people support some piece of legislation, then if you don't flipflop instantly based on poll results you are an evil Hitleresque Kool-Aid drinker who Ignores the Will of the People. On the other hand, if you support a war that 70% of the people in the US are against, you are a brave and courageous patriot who can see that polls aren't everything, and as long as other people die to support your political opinions you're good to go. Logic, partisan style.

I'm no historian, but didn't the French and Russian revolutions have something to do with a majority of the people being against regulatory and other laws that just pushed their citizens too far?You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
billvon 3,120 #6 March 22, 2010 >I'm no historian, but didn't the French and Russian revolutions >have something to do with a majority of the people being against >regulatory and other laws that just pushed their citizens too far? French revolution - that was mainly new liberal political groups opposing the old monarchy/feudal system. The great disparity in the lives of the aristocracy and the common people of France was one of the catalysts; the rich were very rich and the poor were very poor. One of the primary things fought by the revolutionaries was the Ancien Regime, a system of clergy, aristocracy and nobility. It specifically and officially divided the country into three areas - religious, ruling and "everyone else." The Revolution was largely an attempt to eliminate this system. Religious conservatives defending religious privilege and the very rich would seem to fall more towards the Ancien Regime side of things, at least to me. The Russian revolution was messy, with two distinct revolutions occurring at various times. The first was an attempt to depose the Tsar and was led by the political left, who opposed his conservative anti-worker policies. Workers in Russia at that time were among the most poorly treated in the world. They finally started a strike against poor working conditions and lack of food, and this spread and became the February Revolution. The second happened later under the direction of Lenin, and this revolution established communist rule in the USSR. So in a way, yes, both revolutions occurred because the aristocracy pushed their subjects too far, primarily by starving them and mistreating them. However, "people being against regulatory laws" doesn't work, since the lack of those laws (like worker's rights laws) were one of the things they were protesing. turtlespeed 226 #8 March 23, 2010 Although this isn't a fair poll because it offers opportunity for "other than US" citizens to vote.I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun
