http://familyfraud.com/did-anyone-hear-about-the-republican-voter-registration-chief-being-arrested.htm

The head of a voter registration group hired by the California Republican Party was arrested over the weekend for allegedly lying about his address in the state in order to vote illegally, the office of California’s secretary of state announced Sunday.

Mark Anthony Jacoby, the owner of a signature-gathering firm called Young Political Majors, was taken into custody by Ontario police just after midnight Saturday and booked with a felony punishable by up to three years in prison.

Jacoby allegedly registered himself at his childhood home in Los Angeles, even though he no longer lives there. It is voter fraud to register if ineligible and perjury to provide false information on a voter registration card. Jacoby was charged with two counts of each relating to his 2006 and 2007 registration.

"Voter registration fraud is a serious issue, which is why I vigorously investigate all allegations of elections fraud," said Bowen, California’s chief elections officer. "Where there’s a case to be made, I will forward it to law enforcement for criminal prosecution."

They are a little late with this story. He was arrested in 2008, and sentenced to 3 years probation in 2009.

But it is a nice bit of additional Republican hypocrisy that fits right in with their "do as I say and not as I do" politics.

Okay, so Republicans suck out loud - I'll grant you that. It was greatly embarrassing to be abroad when the most recent Bush was in office ("I'm not a moron, but I play one on C-Span...").

What puzzles me is how you might conclude that Democrats are one iota less odious; I assure you they are every bit as far below contempt as are their colleagues across the aisle. The only thing that one might use to separate one from another is their choice of buzzwords.

One politician or another playing hide-the-salami outside of Holy Matrimony is not worthy of a good yawn - 'twas ever thus. Like people getting all worked up about the scandals surrounding the Vatican, I figure that if the worst thing they did was bugger young boys it would be an improvement on their track record on the whole.

In any event, ACORN is a wholly loathsome organization, regardless of who is or is not having sex with whom. Any organization dedicated to representing "the poor" has a vested interest in having as large a population as possible identified as being "the poor." If our society were ever to achieve the kind of egalitarianism they supposedly espouse, they'd be out of business.

Be careful about comparative ethics, since it's a slippery slope. In 1939 the world got all huffy about two sticks of bombs that went where they were not intended to go (a market in Guernica and a margarine factory in Rotterdam); fast forward five years and you have the RAF and USAAC causing firestorms in civilian centers that were full of refugees, with the stated intention to reduce the population "by half."

In any event, using the fact that Republicans are blithering idiots does not improve the standing of Democrats one whit, since they are every bit as bad on the whole - and occasionally worse.

Through the fog of politics,

Winsor

NYT Admits Getting Duped on ACORN

The New York Times admits, sort of, that it got duped by right-wing propagandists who appear to have succeeded in a plot to destroy ACORN, an organization that has aided and defended the poor and powerless across the United States for four decades.

In an op-ed column Sunday, the Times Public Editor Clark Hoyt said he has reviewed the available information and concluded that some key points of the right-wing video presentation were false or misleading, including the claim that right-wing media activist James O'Keefe showed up at ACORN offices dressed in a pimp costume before getting legal advice on setting up a brothel.

"O'Keefe almost certainly did not go into the Acorn offices in the outlandish costume - fur coat, goggle-like sunglasses, walking stick and broad-brimmed hat - in which he appeared at the beginning and end of most of his videos," Hoyt wrote, adding that the Times was considering a correction regarding its earlier reporting that had accepted this misleading point.

Hoyt also acknowledged that perhaps the most damning part of the ACORN sting story was wrong: ACORN staffers did not go along with a plan to use under-aged Salvadoran girls as prostitutes. Indeed, the staffers may have thought they were helping to protect the girls.

After reviewing transcripts provided by a conservative organization, Hoyt accepted a criticism of the Times made by the liberal media critics at Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting, that the Times' earlier reporting on the video gave the impression that O'Keefe and his supposed girlfriend were going to exploit the girls as prostitutes. FAIR said the fuller transcript suggests that the ACORN staffers thought the couple was trying "to buy a house to protect child prostitutes from an abusive pimp."
