dreamdancer 0 #1 March 14, 2010 what an idea - tax those who can afford it. whatever next - a decent healthcare system perhaps... QuoteOur nation is already deeply in debt. How can we possibly afford to invest in our infrastructure, renewable energy, health care, our schools — and create the millions of jobs that our unemployed desperately need? We are told that we’re already living well beyond our means — that entitlement programs like Medicare and Social Security will bankrupt us. Forget the solar panels, the smaller classes and the new jobs — we’ve got to cut back on government programs at all levels. Meanwhile, the super-rich are still having a ball. In his annual shareholder letter, mega-investor Warren Buffett wrote, “We’ve put a lot of money to work during the chaos of the last two years. When it’s raining gold, reach for a bucket, not a thimble.” And Forbes Magazine adds, “Many plutocrats did just that. Indeed, last year’s wealth wasteland has become a billionaire bonanza. Most of the richest people on the planet have seen their fortunes soar in the past year.” Which brings us back to the federal budget. There are two sides to every ledger: the expenses…and the income. We need to start looking at the income side. With a fairer tax system, we could retrieve some of that money downpour that the elite has been siphoning away from us for decades. http://www.alternet.org/rights/146020/why_are_we_afraid_to_tax_the_super-richstay away from moving propellers - they bite blue skies from thai sky adventures good solid response-provoking keyboarding

Hug1 0 #4 March 14, 2010 I believe that we are afraid to tax the super rich, who are already in the highest tax bracket, because they control (influence) big business. As a business owner, my goal is to make a profit with the least expense. That said, taxing the super rich even more would cause a back lash of more companies moving overseas (where they are taxed less, and pay less for labor). They the super rich see this as government building the economy on their backs. Similar to when your area wants to raise your local or state taxes, to supplement government spending.C. Belgian_Draft 0 #6 March 14, 2010 The super-rich already pay a higher percentage of their income to the tax man than the rest of us. They are already paying more than "their fair share". skyrider 0 #7 March 14, 2010 Why do all Liberals think the super rich just got that way over night, withotu paying their fair share? JEALOUSY Plan and simple...They pay Taxes, yet they do higher people to minimise those taxes to what the only legally owe...I see no problem with that! Trust me, I am FAR from rich, but my eye sight is obviously much clearer than yours! Work your ass off, and Join the super rich, there is plenty of room left at the top! ZigZagMarquis 9 #18 March 14, 2010 Okay, its high-noon and that's the moon up the sky, according to you, got-cha... I'm not going to get into an argument with you. Its pretty obvious we'll never convince either of the other's opinion. If you think socialism works, why don't you move to a country governed in such a way? Or would that mean moving out from under the bridge you're under? I'll keep my Constitution, my guns, my freedom and my money, you can keep the change. Have a nice day. dreamdancer 0 #25 March 14, 2010 here's something we could do with the money... Quote400 people who do so well on tax day have a combined net worth of nearly $1.37 trillion. (According to Forbes Magazine their wealth has gone up on average by more than 16 percent over the past year — the worst economic year since the Great Depression during which 29 million Americans are without work or forced into part-time jobs. ) How do we even wrap our minds around a number so large? Here’s the example that brings it down to earth for me. If we had progressive taxes that reduced their wealth to a trifling $100 million each, we’d have enough money to set up a trust fund whose interest could provide tuition-free higher education for students at every public college and university in perpetuity. Imagine that. Our kids could actually leave college without carrying tens of thousands of dollars of debt on their backs. Could those 400 special people be able to get by on just $100 million a year? I think they might. http://www.alternet.org/rights/146020/why_are_we_afraid_to_tax_the_super-richstay away from moving propellers - they bite blue skies from thai sky adventures good solid response-provoking keyboarding
