The Medicare findings are bad news for President Barack Obama and his health care overhaul, bogged down in Congress. That's because the higher Medicare Advantage premiums for 2010 followed a cut in government payments to the private plans last year. And the Democratic bills pending in Congress call for even more cuts, expected to force many seniors to drop out of what has been a rapidly growing alternative to traditional Medicare.

Premiums jump 14 percent on Medicare private plans

Yep, no need for HC overhaul here, move along. Thing is, it will happen, apparently the wheels haven't fallen off yet, as righties want to see before change.

I am retired with Medicare supplement insurance. Last year the copay for a specialist was $25 this year it is $30. Copay for a regular doc is $10. Last year I was treated for cancer and it cost me around $4K. We get no COLA in Social Security and an increase in Dr charges. I am a veteran so I get some care through the VA with a copay of $15. What is worse, sometimes I have to wait an hour or more just to see a doctor.

I am a citizen and the government should take care of me. I spent my working years trying to help the dregs of society. Those social services were federally funded. They owe me.

I think we should have free meals on wheels with pizza and bar-b-que on the menu also.

Easier to be sarcastic than constructive. Watch this, kids, this is how yopu lose these types. So tell me, what of the 30-45 million w/o any coverage whatsoever? What of the elderly who may lose their benefits in part? I know: FUCK THEM. We get ya loud and clear.

Which is why we need full-on soc emds w/o any cuts or other prohibiting provisions. But I guess tax cuts and spending > the rest of the world on teh military trumps that. SO no, I didn't miss that. This is just an article detailing the exponential mess we're in from so many angles. Don't worry tho, HC is dead and you can be delightled that the 30-45M will still not have it and now seniors will lose some benefit too; this is a good day for you, Mike.

You misunderstand. Our social ills are the result of those privileged elite making more than $50K per year. Their obscene wealth needs to be redistributed to the ghettos and the barrios. If those folks had more welfare they could get the healthcare and housing they desire.

No, that is a waste because we have public transportation. However, i-phones and 52" HDTV's are justified.

Hey! Who are you to claim lucky is wrong? Don't you know he is an expert in this?

The real question is what is Lucky doing trying to cite a news source like AP via Yahoo!?

I mean, why look to real world examples in Zimbabwe or Colombia to see what happens when there is government take over and cost controls enacted? I'm sure Lucky can find real facts via the Onion and Wiki while Dreamdancer finds insightful though direction via alternet... in fact, he might have honed his skills through VOCREHAB benefits available at the VA...

Any source still using those numbers has credibility issues. At least they have lowered the range by 10 million.

Even still, at least half the number cited fall into one of 2 categories:

1 - They simply don't want it - unless it is truly free - which it never ever will be.

2 - They are not US citizens, and should not be living off the US tit.

Says the acft structural expert who knows , yet tries to challenge 25+ year veterans.

I never claimed to be an aircraft structural expert, unlike your claim. To be an expert you would need to know the mechanical properties of the common alloys used in aircraft structures, knowledge you proved to lack.
You best get back to the tv. You can't afford to miss another episode of Matlock. ;)

I am absolutely delighted about the 30 million who don't give a shit whether they have HC or not unless it truly is free won't be getting it.

The other 15 million need help, but not 2,000+ pages of it.[:/]
Please don't dent the planet.

I bet 10-15 million of those would / could get insurance with a couple little changes to the system we have now. But then government wouldn't control the money and that just pisses the left off.

If my premiums went up on my car insurance, i would shop around and get a better rate. Tell me why the Democrats will not allow the boarders between states to open up so more competition can occur? Special interest? ;)
