DSE 5 #1 February 12, 2010 The Price of Peace is an moving music video produced by a bunch of mostly amateurs in the National Guard. The songwriter/performer is a 13 year old girl. Regardless of which side of the political spectrum on which you fall, it's worth watching, IMO.

What makes you think that? http://www.mefeedia.com/watch/24936910 The National Guard's Strength Maintenance Support Center is as professional as they come. DSE 5 #3 February 12, 2010 The person that sent it to me was one of the people who worked on it. His comment was that they were "mostly amateur." The director and principle photographer were not Guard, so they had enough budget to bring in hired guns, so that makes a big difference. If you watch the "Making of" piece, it's shot with low end cameras and a pro-sumer grade steadicam, coupled with HDV. Gear doesn't dictate quality, but it supports what the editor tells me. quade 4 #4 February 12, 2010 The National Guard does some amazing recruitment videos with minimal equipment and labor. However, they obviously hire key individuals (professionals) to ensure the look is right. Unfortunately, I can't look at any of their videos, which frequently play in front of movies just before the trailers, without thinking of the "Starship Troopers" recruitment videos because the fact is, that's just what they are. Even this video which seems to have been made for the sole purpose of family moral, was cut into a pre-trailer theatrical recruitment video. It very professionally tugs at heartstrings, but ultimately it's a recruitment tool. I won't go so far as to say propaganda on this particular one, but I think quite a few of them do cross the line. DSE 5 #5 February 12, 2010 I agree. Recruitment videos tug at the heartstrings and many of them offend me just as much as the bullshit PETA ads featuring Sarah Mclachan's music, showing cute kitties and puppies that are going to die because there aren't owners. I have no problem with recruitment pieces that are like this one, I feel military service is a selfless act (for most) and I honor and respect the hell out of our armed services. If people choose to make that their way of serving others, more power to them. I might not agree with the politics that drive the military to do what it does, but the soldiers aren't responsible for those decisions. Without soldiers following orders, there would be no order. In the case of this video, I'm exceptionally impressed with the 13 year old that wrote the music and concepted the video piece. For me, this one isn't a question of politics. It's just an inspiring work by a couple of teenagers. Were it not military-related, I'd have posted it in Bonfire, simply because it's a nice piece, from an unexpected source. skycop 0 #8 February 12, 2010 Very nice, Many guard/reserve guys are older (a few grey hairs and extra pounds) with kids that age. Well done, coming from someones who's had to do that several times.
