livendive 8 #6 February 10, 2010 I'm cool with that, it was a stupid phrase anyhow. Next up, at what point do we abandon the "war on drugs"? It's been going on an awful long time and has consumed an amazing amount of money, and doesn't seem to be any more or less effective than any of the "non war" activities of our Department of Justice. What are you, French? Real Americans never just quit, not like Odumbo! We need more heroes like John McCain and Sarah Palin who have what it takes to see the job through. OK, Palin's a bad example. But still, anyone who runs away from a good war is just such a clueless hand-wringing liberal. Now the War on Illiteracy - that's just silly. You can't shoot it. NickDG 23 #14 February 11, 2010 >>"Mission Accomplished"I actually never had heartburn with Bush over that one. He was really talking more about the crew of the carrier Lincoln, just back from the Middle East, and who's deck he was standing on. As in "their" mission was accomplished. And it was embarrassing our side ran with that one. What did bother me is Bush's lie about needing to trap on the carrier deck due to it being out of helicopter range. I was on Coronado Island that day at the very moment Bush gave his speech. And I saw the Lincoln with my own eyes clearly visible off shore. And it wasn't more than ten or twelve miles out. >>"War on Drugs"It should be obvious to all but dullards that breaking the back of the illegal drug trade is more important and beneficial than putting drug users in prison. Billions and billions of dollars have went down the rat hole in the "war on drugs" while simple decriminalization would kill off the "enemy" in that war and allow us to concentrate on educating the young and medically treating the abusers. And to that end I have a simple lesson. Some recreational drugs are indeed beneficial to the extent they make you look at things and situations in different ways. Hence the sixtie's phrase, "mind expanding." They cure tunnel vision and teach people there's more than one point of view. But the big lesson in all that is once you get the message put down the phone . . . ! >>"War on Terror"The hypocrisy of this one is epic. It's a mantra coined by an administration who's President was a military deserter (in time of actual war) that lusted to redeem himself with the title of "War President." Terrorists can't make war. Only nation states can. Terrorists are criminals and nothing more. And the problem should have been approached in that fashion. And if we are so set on nation building we should be airdropping Fender Stratocasters, drum sets, and bales of marijuana on the Middle East, instead of bombs. In five years they'd be no more a threat to world security than Greenwich Village. And probably supply the world with some pretty cool tunes too . . . Mate that is an epic statement and I couldn't agree with you more. Going down that road would be easy as arabs and persians are already shopping in airconditioned shopping malls and buying mcdonalds, the latest IPOD or gucci shit, if they can afford it... Just like us all. The people that are dying in these wars are not necessarily that much different to us and deserve to live just as we do. Opressed people do not deserve further opression when there is more than enough recources for everybody. They want to live cushy nice lifestyles, and we want to live cushy nice lifestyles. Gong down that road would be no good for the PNAC types and the indutrial military complex though would it. They are the ones that seem to choose our destiny... ...as long as we allow them to, that is! The fear-mongering will continue and the distribution of wealth will continue to be increasingly uneven. It is very basic human nature/instinct for us to be like this, it is optional but we refuse to acknowledge the constant shift away from 'FAIR' and into lust for wealth.
