NickDG 23 #1 February 7, 2010 Most of us can probably agree conservatives aren't generally considered creative thinkers, and why the most interesting authors, artists, scholars, scientists, and men of peace, are usually liberals. But here's the exception that proves the rule and a good take on the republican pain of losing the last presidential election. The person who did it is a conservative using it as his sig line on another forum I follow. And he meant it as a knock on us liberals. But the unintended beauty is it works both ways. And I'll just suppose he wasn't creative enough to see that, LOL . . . In any case, it's well done, and both camps will enjoy it! http://i45.tinypic.com/53wn6c.gif NickD
 wolfriverjoe 1,523 #2 February 7, 2010 That's the "Orange Mocha Frappachino" from Zoolander, isn't it? I think this is a bit of an unfair characterization. However, it is also an example of subjective stated as objective. It's agreed that you may not be interested in the writings or thoughts of those such as PJ O'Rourke, Thomas Sowell, Milton Friedman. It is ironic, says I, that assuming you are correct, that the liberals are "The Man." Meaning that they are the establishment, and therefore stifling competing thought. On the other hand, the intelligentia with whom I have associated find interest in opposite ideas. My best friend is a pinko doctor of economics. Come to think of it, all of my best friends are lefties. Perhaps because they are the intellectual type who, like me, soak up competing thought. They are interested in ideas, no matter what side they fall on. As far as interesting scholars, well, why are they interesting? Interesting authors? Why are they interesting? Men of peace? What makes Robald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev (who agreed to perhaps the most game changing anti-nuclear treaty EVER) less interesting than, say, Jimmy Carter, whose methods were different but achieved peaceful objectives as well? I think they are all interesting because we can learn things from everyone. Often the barrier is in approaching them with an open mind to actually be interested in their perspectives.
