Happy Birthday Frank Buckles.

Quote

"Time has passed very quickly to me," he told CNN after a wreath-laying, "I've had a lot of activity in the last 90 years."

Good on you man! Best wishes for continued good health and happiness.

As I understand it, Britain's last two WWI veterans died last year (correct me if I'm wrong please). I don't know the disposition of other WWI vets.
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

Happy Birthday Frank!

Harry Patch, the British 'Tommy' who was the last surviving veteran in the world who served in the trenches (at Passchendaele/Ypres:o), died last year.

There is still one Royal Navy veteran, who also served in WW2, and one women's RAF veteran still with us (both are 108).

Do you want to have an ideagasm?

wow, my grandfather fought in WWI with the Newfoundland Regiment. He died in 1984 at 89 years old I think.

He was wounded in Belgium, and his brother was killed over there. He never ever talked about the war until I showed him some pictures of Trafalgar Square after a trip to the UK that I took in high school.

He said he was standing there (Trafalgar Square) in 1916 and showed me on the pictures and then proceeded to spend 2 hours non-stop telling me about the war and some of the things he saw.

wow.
