Finally "no open carry" at some businesses

Recommended Posts

One side: "I don't like something = it should be outlawed by government" the example above shows that this type of thought is considered a 'given'

Response: "Even when I don't like something, freedom means we have to accept differences of opinion on private property"

It is extremely ironic when you consider that it is exactly what conservatives do. Abortion and gay marriage issues come in mind right away. Before it was integration, interracial marriage, sodomy laws and so on. Every time those conservatives basically sided up with "I don't like something = it should be outlawed by government".

Then it gets ironic when they start whining when others use exactly the same approach on them when their loved guns are on stake.

well, that's up to the judge, but he'd still haul me into court, and assuming he could afford it, bankrupt me and put me out of business, or use it as a threat to get me to change my mind.

The chance is kinda slim. I don't see a lot of challenges to "no shoes - no service" policies on religious grounds either.

point me out a religion that requires I go barefoot. I'd like to claim it. I love barefootin'

JR I think you'll find that businesses can and do limit their threat exposure and are perfectly within their rights to not have guns on their property if they don't want to. It is, after all, their property.

Once you get past your condescension, I think you'll find that concealed carry holders are even MORE aware of that than most.

George mentioned concealed carry states, so I went to wiki and got the listing of the states that have 'shall issue" concealed carry vs. the states that "may issue" or do not issue at all. There are 12 states and the District that are not 'shall issue'.
Here's the numbers:

Same as above. Computing an average crime rate in Texas plus North Dakota (or Maine plus California) makes exactly the same sense as calculating average income using your and Bill Gates' income.

You're the one that said "countries don't matter" and "people are people" - are you walking that back, now?

...Most restaurants won't let you "open carry" cats either.

There's probably a wide range of OBJECTS you could "open carry" and they'd tell you to leave. Big deal.

In my experience, cats are waaaay more dangerous than guns. Clean your gun...now go clean your cat...you'll see.
My reality and yours are quite different.

Methinks their cure is worse than the perceived problem.

It was pretty clear what YOU would think about it well before you clicked on a "Post" link. So you just wasted some bandwidth.

It's something I wanted to say, and therefore it wasn't a waste of bandwidth. It's important to point out and emphasis to everyone the dirty tricks that some gun-o-phobes would be willing to foist upon an innocent public in order to put into effect their dreams of gun confiscation.

There is no bandwidth rationing. That's up to you to do for yourself. If you think reading all these messages is a waste of your internet capacity, then by all means, stop reading them.

Do you want to start a "Bandwidth Police" now, whereby some government entity would decide what internet messages are permissible?

Oops, now you're into destroying the 1st Amendment too. I've lost count - does that put you up to 5 Amendments in the Bill of Rights that you have a problem with?

Perhaps you would prefer the old Soviet-era stores where the government owns them, and you have no other choice about where to shop. If you wanted a pork chop or a pound of butter, you had to go to the state store. And if you were really lucky, they'd have some.

And this is yet another lie from JohnRich.

I guess everyone is supposed to just take your word for that, since you haven't bothered to offer anything to disprove it. Maybe they'll just ignore history, and actually believe you.

Here's a reference for you, to refresh your memory:
"The Contemporary Soviet City", 1984, page 13:
http://books.google.com/books?id=79haNx8rZBQC&pg=PA13&lpg=PA13&dq=soviet+state+store+meat+butter&source=bl&ots=bg419E9CVF&sig=iktHV0XEg1DQEh5B5dXOvRpn42g&hl=en&ei=ZdVyS-O6CIylngey47yUCw&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CAkQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=soviet%20state%20store%20meat%20butter&f=false

Note how the farm markets were so overpriced that most people couldn't afford them, thereby leaving the state store their only practical option, where goods were often unavailable.

it's not ironic when you take out partisan references

the behavior is exhibited by both sides on certain topics -

I would say grouping people by "we want laws established to secure our pet peeves" vs "leave me alone" is probably a better way to divide the political spectrum

so in that realm, I'd group the anti-gun crowd in with the anti-abortioners a lot faster than I'd divide them along liberal vs conservative lines

I think the irony here is really on you in this case

...So Americans are just nastier people than Europeans.

For the most part, yes.

nonsense - there is more diversity within large land masses than between

Actually,....scratch that. I find my impressions of people has less to do with them, and more to do with their response to me. Perhaps you are more courteous to the Euros you've met than you typically treat Americans as you were a visitor in their country or they were a visitor in your country.

People are pretty much the same everywhere if you treat them all decently.

You must not have done it right.
1. Put palmolive detergent in toilet.
2. Add cat.
3. Let cat self-agitate until sudsy
4. Flush several times to rinse

oh, goodie, you saved me the need to reply there.

Whether he knows it or not, there are a lot of Americans that support speech (1st), guns (2nd), abortion rights, and gay marriage.

If this was true, no gun store would ever be robbed.

Not true as the guns in a gun store have to be unloaded and people know that. I cannot even conceal carry into a gun store.

but there wasn't much left
