Erroll 80 #1 January 27, 2010 I have been following the Iraq inquiry, currently underway in the UK, with a lot of interest. Yesterday's testimony by the legal advisers was particularly illuminating. I thought Elizabeth Wilmshurst conducted herself extremely well - she is so well spoken, eloquent and confident (brains do make a woman sexy). My question to the UK guys: Assuming that the Chilcot Inquiry finds that the invasion of Iraq was illegal, then what happens? Is there likely to be any kind recourse that will be taken against Mr Blair and possibly even former attorney general Goldsmith? What about compensation to the families of fallen soldiers? Any other consequences?

Blair's tune about how to proceed with regard to Iraq changed dramatically after he visited Bush in Texas. Mr Blair is giving evidence now. He was specifically asked about that visit. His answer, according to Sky: Quote"There was never actually anything decided," he said. The meeting was an attempt to "establish a close and strong relationship" with the American leader, he said. He insisted his private sentiments matched his public sentiments. "The only commitment I gave and I gave this very openly, was the commitment to deal with Saddam [Hussein]," he added. And answering my original question (from the same source) Quote The Inquiry is expected to publish its report late next year but will not assign blame or determine if there was criminal conduct.
