Andrewwhyte 1 #51 January 19, 2010 Bill Clinton said today that US troops will focus on food and other supply distribution and the UN troops will focus on civil security. Canadian troops arriving tomorrow are planning on doing both.

And if it wasn't for the Europeans, you wouldn't have a country to live in.....all stupid reasoning for current time. And, the US is not the only country providing aid. The problem appears to be getting the aid from the airport to where it is needed. I am sure many lessons will be learned from this disaster, as always. However, I strongly believe that everybody is doing the best they can.

Nightingale 0 #57 January 19, 2010 In a situation such as this, a lot of who lands and who doesn't is going to depend on timing... who arrives when there is a free runway, who has been circling the longest, along with what's needed most, where, and when. Simply having fresh water and food is insufficient in a situation like this. You need methods of distribution, and you need to be able to secure those supply lines. You need a way to get the aid to the people that need it, otherwise you might as well not have those doctors and aid workers and supplies at all. A week from now, two weeks from now, one month from now, there are still going to be millions of people without housing or any hope of fending for themselves. The roads must be cleared and order must be preserved (or established).
PhreeZone 20 #59 January 19, 2010 They kicked about 50,000 pounds or 40 pallets out of a C17 yesterday full of food and water via a parachute drop so they are using every method they can right now to maximize the ability to land at the airport.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
Andrewwhyte 1 #60 January 19, 2010 Yup, they are fighting what to some degree will be a losing battle to provide food, water, medicine, fuel, road clearing equipment, and security. There are still many many people who have received nothing yet. Of course everyone who has received help need more tomorrow. The more success they have the more the demands upon the system will be. Shelter hasn't even begun to be addressed and won't be for some time. Look at what is going on in New Orleans. This is a much larger project and will take longer. Nightingale 0 #61 January 20, 2010 Also, the airport isn't the only way onto the island. Ships are arriving carrying supplies too. Even Royal Caribbean is dropping their cruise passengers off at their private beach on one side of the island, and sailing around to Port au Prince on the other side and dropping supplies and having their crew do aid work while they're in port. They made a statement that they considered suspending the cruise operation to Haiti and just running supplies, but thought it would further damage the island's economy, which depends on tourism and the dollars the tourists spend while in port. I do see their point.
Glandu 0 #62 January 20, 2010 I guess we have invaded this country according to France Haitians speak Creole and FRENCH !!!! We also need the French nilitary to get in Haiti, because as far as I know, the US soldiers doesn't speak French and that can create big problems. If the US military are not willing to coordinate efforts with the French, then one can doubt about the "moral legitimity" of the US. When someone is in desperate need to talk to someone because of so much suffering and despair, that person will express himself/ herself in his/her native language which is French!!!! I just hope Obama has already worked this out with France. By the way ask Europeans and other nations if they trust the US? Maybe they have legitimate reasons not to trust Americans. There are ~2000 Canadian troops there now and they do speak french. Also a lot of Haitians speak English. All aid givers need to co-ordinate, but there is no over arching reason for French troops. By the way the French President was backing and filling for his minister today. I think the guy was being a mouthpiece for Medçines sans Frontiers who are frustrated with a lack of medical supplies. The BBC claims that the priorities are coming from the Haitian government; food and water before medicine.

Your childish statement above is just more proof of your twisted thought. Its humorous, but even more so, sickening how you can commit so much of your time to your hate on America posts. You say such offensive things about America and then start to cry to the Mods the second people say you are full of shit. You PA the US every day so buck up if you get some flack for it. To clarify, my point is that if we want to argue that our troops in Haiti is a good thing (which is a good thing) then we should just make that argument based on its merits instead of suggesting that some idiot opposed to our troops being there has no right to speak because of our actions in WW2. Argue from reason, not emotion.
