Haiti, america turns food and medical supplys away, prioritising troops and reporters instead.

Recommended Posts

The poor people in Haiti are starving and dying and the rations are not being distributed fairly.

Anyone else watching, what is you news channel saying.

GW just said "some want to send blankets or water, just send your cash", with a smile on his face. What an asshole. There are people that have not drank water in days and a single bottle of water will save a life right now, money takes time to turn into aid, where blankets and water can be sent and arrive within hours.

The U.S. military operating Haiti's damaged main airport said it can now handle 90 flights a day, but that wasn't enough to cope with all the planes sent by foreign donors and governments circling overhead in hopes of winning one of the few spots available on the tarmac.

France's Cooperation Minister Alain Joyandet told The Associated Press that he had filed an official complaint to the U.S. government after two French planes, one carrying a field hospital, were denied permission to land.

dare I say it, i got the first reports off Al Jazeera, but i'm sure more will come of this over the coming days and weeks!

GW just said . . .

Who is GW?

Anyway, if you have a problem with the way the US is coming to the rescue of another country in need, feel free to load up a plane and parachute in with supplies.

I applaude 'all' the countires that have come with aid, but when french planes with medical supplies are turned away while US troops and reporters land....

Thousands of troops are needed to aid in the recovery. If you know a faster way of getting them on the island than by aircraft, speak up!
How many aircraft full of reporters have flown in?
The airfield in use is not very big and is already severely overloaded. Just because the French aircraft was turned away when it arrived does not mean it won't eventually get in.
Bush and Clinton are correct in requesting cash donations. Cash can be used to purchase what is most needed as requested by the people on the ground doing the work.
Have you donated yet? If not then you have no right to chastise those that ARE doing something.

No conspiracy!

brazil has had food aid turned away now too, while air conditioning units and water supplies for US troops have been unloaded.

this is going to get ugly and the US is going to cop alot of flack!

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

It's already ugly due to the nature of the disaster.

The US will always catch a lot of flack but the US
will still do the best we can. I believe all countries
trying to provide aid are doing the best they can.

I'll salute our troops assisting in this disaster as well
the other relief personel.:D

When there is no place to park the plane then yes it's gets turned away. My cousin is one of the Air Force Controllers on the ground there now and he said the airfield has no fuel and parking is limited. So what do you suggest?

No shit supplies are offloaded for the troops! If the people who are doing the rescue don't have supplies then they become victims also. What do you suggest? Send them in with no food and wated so they know how the people they are trying to help feel?

Say what? Within 24 hours we had Army, Coast Guard, Marines and Air Force on the ground. Cargo planes landing, Ships in route and a carrier and ship hospitols on the way also. But we are the bad guys here? Man you realllllly hate the US dont you?:S
If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!

Maybe you should heed the request of the President of Haiti. This is taken from the very article you linked to:
"Haitian President Rene Preval urged donors to avoid arguments.
"This is an extremely difficult situation. We must keep our cool to do co-ordination and not to throw accusations at each other," Preval said after emerging from a meeting with donor groups and nations at a dilapidated police station that serves as his temporary headquarters. "
If you don't like the way things are being done, then get off your ass and do it better.
BTW, have you made a donation to a relief organization yet?

They need the same system they used in Bosnia when the Serbs were trying to starve out Bosnians. The US simply dropped hundreds of thousands of single granola bars and MRE'S from 30,000 ft over the beseiged areas. This would stop the rioting at distribution points and the chance that the food would end up in the wrong hands. Since there would be no anti aircraft fire in Haiti they could drop from a few thousand feet. They also did this in Afghanistan at the beginning of the war.

apparently, according to you, aljazeera?
no other country has reporters? news to me
let China take care of it - we have individual US citizens that have contributed more than the entire country

How much did you donate?

Sounds a bit like megalomania; do a 'good deed' and talk about it. :|

How much did you donate?

How arrogant is that to ask such a question? That's an affront to every person who donated, whatever one was able to give. My niece is 12 y/o; she was happy to donate 5 EUROS from her passbook. That does not count??

Arrogance at its best. [:/]

That's because people are mobbing water, food, and supply trucks/helicopters and able bodied people are trampling those in greater need out of desperation.

Disaster relief includes food, water, and hospitals but it does not only consist of food, water, and hospitals. Like it or not, you have to keep people from going Mad Max on each other.

China's an economic power house of the world - it's the same comment as the 'usuals' here apply to the US.

As far as how much did Rhys donate? his style is so tired and thin and judgmental anymore, it's just nice to see what someone so perfect and all knowing and judgemental gives so we can all follow suit and be just as great.[:/]

So what you're saying is that this earthquake was actually triggered by a thermite explosion and this is all a ploy to get air conditioners into the hands of US troops. Makes sense.

I know 1000 A/C repair and salesmen that have signed a petition saying just that. You all just need to get your heads out of the sand.

True; there's no way to be really fair in a situation like this, where even basic services (roads etc) have been destroyed.

>Food and medical supplies should be paramount, reporters should be
>turned away before these things . . . .

They are. Most of the reporters haven't been able to get in, and of the ones that have gotten in, most have gone through the Dominican Republic and/or used alternative modes of transportation (helicopters, boats etc.) A few have hitched rides on military transports that are carrying aid supplies.

Indeed, the lack of news has had many news organizations relying on Twitter, Facebook etc to get reports from residents as their primary source of news.

I knew it was only a matter of time, the US has taken charge because no one else will. The situation is bad, the armchair quarterbacks are already bitching. I'm sure its a cluster fuck there, only time is going to cure that.

i don't hate america, but i don't appreciate seeing people dying in television.

There are enough troops now, start getting food and medical supplies to the people before they die.
