Yet equating... conservative = racist southerner = racist or some other generalization is ok Based on the posts here on this website.. it certainly does appear that way with all the bellyaching about all things PC and the daily posts by the same posters who listen to certain talk show hosts who have a proven track record of racism and mysogyny. rushmc 23 #27 January 11, 2010 Quote Quote Quote Obama is a Harvard educated lawyer. Of friggin' course he doesn't speak Ebonics. There is only surprise that a Harvard graduate "speaks well" is because he is black. I was pointing out the fallacy that someone who attends Harvard....might be well spoken.. I always do get a kick though out of the right wing racists.. who come out of the woodwork... to point out people in the opposing party by saying .. oh look he is making a racist comment too. Based on what was said I think it falls a tad short of what is said at most conservative rallies about minorities, women and gays as a general rule. Here is a site I think you and other conservatives should like. http://cofcc.org/ Interesting. "All you... people thinks alike and talks alike." That is how is non-thinkers talk. "All you right-wingers, left-wingers, blacks, whites, women, men, northerners, southerners - do... alike." Grouping people by association is how racism works. Yet equating... conservative = racist southerner = racist or some other generalization is ok. College, or not, I did not find it surprising that a black man did not speak like a "negro". I associate with black people on every work site. That type of comment would never occur to me (even though I am an ignorant, inbred, racist Southerner). Perhaps that is what the Dem leadership needs. More contact with black people. Perhaps that is why pinko-commie-liberals are said to be "living in an ivory tower". Let's face it, there is no spin that says this was not a racist comment. You are correct There is only a different level of accountability"America will never be destroyed from the outside, if we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves." Reid doesn't post here. No matter the political party of any responding poster, no one can defend an obviously racist comment like that. It seems that people would, "Yes, it was wrong, but it does not reflect the opinions of anyone but the speaker." That is how to establish a personal opinion. Anyone can state, "I am a Dem, but that was racist and I disagree with it." It is ridiculous to expect anyone to follow the party line in lockstep. (Politicians being exempt from that. HC did vote 100% with the Dem party according to OpenCongress.org) Here is an opportunity for anyone to take a stand. Otherwise, any comments from Dems about "sheeple" will ring hollow. JohnDeere 0 #35 January 11, 2010 Quote Quote I picture a bunch of Democrats struggling to claw their way out of quicksand. Really? I picture the two of them looking at each other and saying, "Meh. It was over a year ago and we're on the same side so who really gives a flying fuck? Oh yeah, the right wing media. Whatever." Im just glad your boy is good at taking the blows from your party!~ Nothing opens like a Deere! You ignorant fool! Checks are for workers!
happythoughts 0 #36 January 11, 2010 A vote count is inconsequential. It does not concern me. You should go ahead and state that you believe it is ok that -the Dem leadership still refers to black leaders as negroes. -they are surprised that they speak English with clarity. -this does not constitute a racist comment. I recommend following the Dem procedure of avoiding saying anything that can be taken in context.

SpeedRacer 1 #38 January 12, 2010 Reid made his comment back in 2008 during the campaign. The reason it's coming out now is the publication of a book called "Game Change" which talks about all the characters, both Republican & Democrat, in the election. Check out this review: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/11/books/11book.html?emc=eta1 Apparently Sarah Palin had to be tutored about history & was considered unstable by some in the McCain campaign, and that if McCain were to be elected, she would have to be restricted to ceremonial affairs. Historical note: prior to Walter Mondale, virtually all VPs were more or less restricted to ceremonial affairs. But keep in mind: roughly 20% of all Presidents initially became so via Constitutional succession.
happythoughts 0 #40 January 12, 2010 Quote Reid made his comment back in 2008 during the campaign. Well, I guess he was just a product of his times. He was making racist remarks wayyyy back in 2008. He doesn't think that way these days. All VP and Pres candidates get special tutoring on many, many topics. That is expected. Since the topic is racist attitudes, not foreign policy, and SP never made a racist remark, what is your point? (Other than changing the topic) So far, no Dem has actually said, "Whoa! Bad idea to expect all them black folks to talk like that." Not one. (waiting for the "...but Mom... everybody does that" excuse) But I expect that. After all, "A zebra does not change its spots." - Al Gore
SpeedRacer 1 #41 January 12, 2010 No, I wasn't excusing Reid's comments. Why did you think I was? I was simply pointing out where all this stuff came from: this new book that came out recently. My point was to call attention to the book, which has a lot of juicy stuff about all the major characters in the 2008 campaign.
