Reincarnation was widely accepted even when Jesus walked the Earth. Some of the early saints believed in reincarnation (i.e., St. Augustine). The Bible, as we know it today, can be traced back to the fourth century A.D. The Second Council of Church Fathers, in Constantinople in 553 A.D., deleted many direct references to reincarnation from the Bible. Constantine was the emperor of Rome. He appointed Pope Damascus. They founded the Council of Nicaea and made an effort to purge everything out of the Scriptures of the New Testament that spoke of reincarnation as they were translating the Scriptures from Aramaic into Latin. The Council met with the specific purpose of condemning the idea of reincarnation. King James further tried to remove any references to reincarnation, but they can still be found in the Bible.
