Bible thumpers as fools? Why yes, indeed

Recommended Posts

In an online comments area, this exchange came up between a few folks duking it out with some nutters. Th nutters appear to have spent too much time in "christian" church as children, and never gotten over it.

In reality, a fool IS a person who believes what someone else tell them, with NO evidence to support their claims. A fool will believe anything you tell them. An intelligent person will weigh the evidence.

Very well said. This reminds me of the words of Richard Carrier:

Suppose there is a God who is watching us and choosing which souls of the deceased to bring to heaven, and this god really does want only the morally good to populate heaven. He will probably select from only those who made a significant and responsible effort to discover the truth. For all others are untrustworthy, being cognitively or morally inferior, or both. They will also be less likely ever to discover and commit to true beliefs about right and wrong. That is, if they have a significant and trustworthy concern for doing right and avoiding wrong, it follows necessarily that they must have a significant and trustworthy concern for knowing right and wrong. Since this knowledge requires knowledge about many fundamental facts of the universe (such as whether there is a god), it follows necessarily that such people must have a significant and trustworthy concern for always seeking out, testing, and confirming that their beliefs about such things are probably correct. Therefore, only such people can be sufficiently moral and trustworthy to deserve a place in heaven — unless god wishes to fill heaven with the morally lazy, irresponsible, or untrustworthy.

<<< End

The Christmas season is pretty cool, even if the religious side doesn't make much sense to me. The family and celebration part of it make perfect sense.

Merry Christmas to all.

It is actually much simpler than you think.

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son so that who ever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life."

Our good & moral works will never cut it.

HAVE A WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS!!!!!

And really, when you think about it, just how sick is that? Do you really think that your god is not only the ultimate egotist, but that it's a good thing?
Do you want to have an ideagasm?

The power in the life of Jesus Christ of Nazareth is not His birth but rather in His death. Therein lies the gift.

Merry Christmas; Easter is coming.
Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.

Fools? For having different beliefs than mine?

If that is true, then as I have always felt, Obama supporters are Fools! (I like to think they have simply been tricked,/mistaken not truely fools)

Religion is a hard nut to crack, I have many Inlaws that work for/make their living in the church, (I am an athiest) and My son hangs out with a Muslim kid, who's mother I am constantly asking questions, to try and understand where they are coming from..

OK gotta run, hope half a post makes sense, I really did have a direction, but ran out of time..>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

So why did he wait so long (since the begin of the Human race)? and why that particular time in history (no where near the worst time of behaviour).

and why that partricular dead end part of te Mediteranian? Most of the surface of the Earth was not even known about then.. So the 'Word' could not be spread

The timing and geography is all wrong. Make no real sense.

Mabe I am a bit hazy on this one, but does not the phrase "He gave his only begotten son" infer that his son is gone forever. If Jesus "died for all of our sins" why is he still around? sounds like double talk.

Apparently it was His plan that Christianity would spread not through truth, logic, and goodness as was the way of Christ but through warfare, genocide, and empire building.

You could be right, but for me the timing and the placement was perfect.
