Wrong again. I claimed that lifestyle choices were a stronger factor than medical care in regards to longevity. That was backed up by various studies and info from the CDC, AHA, etc.

Any talk of 'comparisons' is YOUR collection of strawmen, looking for a brain.

Irrelevant to the discussion.

You're right, your argument WAS irrelevant to the discussion.

Did you learn that style of response in 1st grade or kindergarten?

From your responses to us lumpenprole, why do you ask?

Going from bribes to threats...gotta love that Chicago style politics!

While the Democrats appease Senator Lieberman, they still have to worry about other recalcitrant Democrats including Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson. Though Lieberman has been out front in the fight against the public option and the Medicare buy-in, Nelson was critical of both. Now that those provisions appear to have been stripped from the bill, Lieberman may get on board, but Nelson's demand that taxpayer money not be used to fund abortion has still not been met. According to a Senate aide, the White House is now threatening to put Nebraska's Offutt Air Force Base on the BRAC list if Nelson doesn't fall into line.

You can't really be THAT blind... Mike..for a supposedly smart guy ... you are so eat up with worhiping the Bush family that it boggles...

http://www.answers.com/topic/military-base-closings

Quote

In 1990, Secretary of Defense Richard Cheney announced a second list of proposed base closings without relying on a commission. This caused an outcry in Congress, where the Democratic majority believed that the list contained too many bases in states or districts represented by Democrats. The chair of the House Armed Services Committee, Les Aspin of Wisconsin, recommended that a second commission propose another list, and in October 1990 Congress approved the creation of such a commission. In 1991 the commission presented its list, which called for the closure of thirty-four bases and the realignment of another forty-eight. Congress accepted these recommendations and stated that the secretary of defense must consider closing overseas bases as well.

The point MIKE is that it did happen.. and it was GHWB who started that which YOU blame Clinton for.. but we expect that. Its just your nature. Your inability to grasp how things work in your party is just staggering.

The reality: All this debate is meaningless as there is no grant of power, under the constitution, for the government to have any involvement in healthcare.

The government also shouldn't have any involvement in drugs or currently legal crops that don't move across state lines but they do.

Quote

Reporter: "What part of the constitution do you think gives congress the authority to mandate individuals have to purchase health insurance?"

The commerce clause of course. Able bodied citizens are required for companies to compete in interstate commerce. Citizens with health insurance are more likely to get treatment for medical conditions making them able to work productively. Therefore Congress has the ability to mandate health insurance for citizens.

As an engineer I like to simplify things while a real Congress Critter would take more sentences to get to that point.

Quote

If you don't like the constitution go somewhere else! This is not a democracy! Its a republic!

It's an oligarchy with some limits imposed by existing governing documents like the Constitution and limited democratic input which keeps things from getting too egregious.

Gee, I must have missed how GHWB personally appointed every member of the BRAC board - can you show me where that is in the webpage you posted? All I can find is this:

"Instead, it voted in 1988 to create an independent, bipartisan advisory commission to the Pentagon to propose lists of bases for closure."

I am truely sorry for your cognitive abilities.

It's certainly not by accident that every base in the SF Bay Area is gone.

At this point, if someone was crazy enough to try to invade the country, this is the place to do it. Between the fucking pacifists and the lack of any military response, it's an easy entry point.

READIN IZ FUNDAMENTAL

Quote

The 1993 commission faced similar difficulties. Concerned about the loss of jobs and the economic impact of base closures on communities and states, Congress closely scrutinized the proposed list. Aspin, now secretary of defense, rebutted allegations that some of the closings were politically motivated. The third list affected 175 military installations, with some thirty major U.S. bases to be closed, twelve other major bases subject to realignment, and additional smaller bases being closed, realigned, or relocated. Congress accepted the list in 1993. In June 1995, the commission recommended closing seventy-nine bases and realigning twenty-six others. Although President Bill Clinton expressed strong concern about the economic impact of base closings in Texas and California, he approved the recommendations in July.

Wrong again:

Quote

DOD RECOMMENDATIONS.--(1) The Secretary may, by no later than April 15, 1991, March 15, 1993, and March 1, 1995, publish in the Federal Register and transmit to the congressional defense committees and to the Commission a list of the military installations inside the United States that the Secretary recommends for closure or realignment on the basis of the force-structure plan and the final criteria referred to in subsection (b)(2) that are applicable to the

More like "things that make you go 'BULLSHIT!!!'"

But by all means, show how Cheney, as a private citizen, forced the BRAC council to make the recommendations that HE wanted in 93 and 95, then forced Aspen, Cohen, Congress AND Clinton to sign off on them.
