It's called distribution of wealth, it's necessary to keep a country healthy. It's not. Obsessions over "wealth distribution" are wasteful distractions from the real issues affecting lower earning individuals' quality of life. Bill Gates having just 84,000X my assets instead of 168,000X has nothing to do with my being able to have a home, transportation, decent food, some level of creature comforts, and the ability to retire once I get old and tired. Warren Buffet doing 124,000X better instead of 248,000X has nothing to do with my competitiveness in the global labor market where people in emerging markets with low costs of living do "the same job" for 1/5th my Salary. Real problems stem from "common-man" friendly government programs like buying up mortgages, thus insulating banks from risks and allowing artificially low interest rates which drive up the cost of real-estate so that we've gone from people paying half their salary for five years to 30-50% of their salary for 30 or 40 years to buy a home. Real problems stem from "common-man" friendly government programs like student loan guarantees, thus getting young people unaware of true debt service costs into loans with necessary secondary education cost increases far outpacing inflation so that we've gone from a part time job covering college with no debt to young people entering their adult life owing what they'd pay for half an artificially inflated house. Those same problems make the impending collision between first and third world costs of labor and living more severe than it has to be and amplify the pain of the people caught up in it. FallingOsh 0 #17 September 29, 2009 Quote Bitter? I could give a fuck about your filthy Lucre. All I care about is my Freedom. Me too. Don't keep sticking your hand in my pockets and coming up with assanine reasons to further tax the rich. That's not directed at you, BTW. It's directed at the thread title. Quote Don't make my children slaves to the governments' debt and don't force my kids into conscripted service to fight the war in Iran or any other war. I'm gunna go ahead and say you're moving towards the deep end here. Nobody is taking your kids and making them fight anywhere. It's not even a topic of discussion in the thread. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

Some are really trying to do their jobs to the best of their ability; you don't hear about these people very often. Others want to scream and cry and get on TV. These are the people you hear about. I think the rich have pretty much the same story. Some are just people who happened upon the right combination of luck, talent, hard work and timing. Some are greedy exploitative SOB's. Those are the people you hear most about.

Lucky... 0 #20 September 29, 2009 Quote Yes I know what it's called. I've heard it somewhere else before. Probably at a GOP convention when they declared they wanted to keep shifting it further north. Quote Says who? Russia? Cuba? Speaking of Russia and Cuba, I bet our D of W mirrors theirs. Quote Wealth moving around happens in all societies. In capitalism it's supposed to happen naturally. In socialist countries it's government forced. In Capitalism it is controlled by the welathy elitists who are not accountable to anyone. In Communism it is controlled by the government for the government. In Soicalism it is controlled by teh government for teh people; if it turns to being for teh gov then it is Communism. Quote That's besides the point anyway. You said we need to tax the rich to bring them down to other peoples' levels. Gee, I don't recall writing that, I believe you interpreted that in your own words. We need to tax the rich more so the gap shortens some. Quote It's not necessary to keep the country healthy. It's greed, jealousy, and bitterness of people better off than you. No, it's to have a society where people don't have different rules for different classes. It's about a society that works in harmony where people all have a chance at properity and have basic needs met along the way. Quote Would you still play the game if everytime you started winning, mom came in and gave half your money to the kid who squandered all of his? No, but if it went to people who don't have as much for legitimate reasons like many do, then I would find it pallatable. Quote You want to tax the rich more than they already are because there is a wealth disparity. Yes. Quote Wah, life isn't fair... they have more and I want it... wahh That's what you say to people w/o healthcare too, pure compassion. But write that down, when Obama raises taxes on the rich after HC reform, that's what I will be thinking to you
rhaig 0 #21 September 29, 2009 QuoteQuoteQuote Blues, Cliff Sounds like a perfect excuse for the lazy and bitter who want to punish people better off than them. Listen,Pal, The wealthy have taken over our government. Every person in congress and even the President are beholden to corporate America and AIPAC for their posts. The Congress dosen't represent us! They can't even relate to us! They have been bought and paid for by the very wealthy elite! So don't talk about the "lazy and bitter" to me. Really, well who is going to fight the Iranians for Israel then? The volunteer army is stretched pretty thin now considering Iraq,Pakistan,Somalia,Afghanistan and on and on and on since the towers fell straight down that day and number 7 fell at least twice if you tune in to the BBC or the CIA or is it KGB? billvon 3,085 #23 September 29, 2009 >When the stats indicate that many are w/o healthcare and >sometimes even a home, they are obscene. I guess we have different definitions of obscene, then. Someone who has to live in a shelter and go to an ER for lousy medical care? Not all that obscene. Pretty good by most of the world's standards actually. A war where both sides use kids for shields? A genocide where hundreds of thousands are killed by having their arms hacked off? Pretty obscene.
DrewEckhardt 0 #24 September 29, 2009 QuoteQuoteYou want to tax them to reverse them making more money than the poor? So now it isn't even an argument that we need the money to run the country. Now we just need to tax them so they'll be brought down to others' levels. You're quote said the only rich people are ones who got there by taking advantage of people and gaming the system. You didn't say anything specifying congress or one particular person. You said all rich people are dirty or lucked into the money. That's crap. and does make you sound bitter. Bitter? I could give a fuck about your filthy Lucre. All I care about is my Freedom.
