SkyChimp 0 #1 September 5, 2009 Van Jones (Obama's Green Czar) has quite an interesting resume. Do you think he should step down, or stay? I'm not sure which statement takes the grand prize between his uncouth remark that all Republicans are "assholes", to the statement that white people are responsible for black people's poverty. Obama sure knows how to pick his peeps. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/09/04/republican-congressman-calls-jones-resign/ Does anyone else find it funny that we made a SPORT out of an EMERGENCY PROCEDURE?!?! TankBuster 0 #2 September 5, 2009 I say let him stay. Let him continue to say and do things that show what Obama is all about - radical, racial rabble rousing, and Marxist. He'll be as good as Joe Biden, the gift that keeps on giving. It makes for good entertainment in its own right, plus it'll be fun watching some of the folks in SC defend him.The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer. Andy9o8 2 #14 September 5, 2009 Quotehis uncouth remark that all Republicans are "assholes", And this is where the out-of-context distortion begins. Yes, the remark was uncouth. But he didn't say that ALL Republicans are assholes (as you've now claimed twice). In a Q & A session about 7 months ago, he was asked why Republicans in Congress had more success moving legislation in previous years than Democrats seem to have today: QuoteHe made the remarks in February during an energy lecture in Berkeley, Calif., after a woman in the audience asked him why President Obama and congressional Democrats were having trouble moving legislation -- even though Republicans, with a smaller majority, didn't have as much trouble earlier in the Bush administration. "Well, the answer to that is, they're assholes," Jones said, to uproarious laughter. "That's a technical, political science term." The questioner responded, "I was afraid that that was the answer." But Jones said that, even though Obama is "not an asshole," others have to step up the fight. "Now, I will say this. I can be an asshole, and some of us who are not Barack Hussein Obama are going to have to start getting a little bit uppity," he said. http://74.125.93.132/search?q=cache:Tr5upPR3-LkJ:www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/09/02/white-house-green-jobs-adviser-republicans-assholes/+%22van+jones%22+assholes&cd=3&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us Now you have it in complete context. It's often said that in hardball politics, you have to be a tough SOB to prevail. Jones was acknowledging, albeit crudely for a public forum, that Republicans have been tougher SOBs than Democrats have, and that was reflected in the Republicans' legislative success rate. It was, in fact, a form of warrior-to-warrior complement at the toughness of Congressional Republicans.

Andy9o8 2 #16 September 5, 2009 Quotethe statement that white people are responsible for black people's poverty. Another distortion. As an environmental activist, he's said, a number of times, that polluting corporations - which do tend to be primarily white-owned - tend to steer their pollution-creating activities to the poorest neighborhoods that have the least economic (and thus political) clout to oppose it, and those often tend to be black communities. He hasn't always been tactful in the way he's phrased it, but it's a far cry from what you've claimed he said.
riddler 0 #17 September 5, 2009 Seems like the "assholes" comment was directed at Congressional Democrats, not Republicans. But the interesting part of this story is this: QuotePence also called on Obama to suspend appointment of additional so-called "czars" until Congress has a chance to examine the background and responsibilities of such individuals, as well as to determine the constitutionality of such appointments. The appointment of Czars has always been the privilege of the White House, and not Congress. It sounds like a power-play to remove more authority from the President.Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
