happythoughts 0 #1 August 24, 2009 My two favorites for avoiding discussing a topic. 1- If you want to avoid discussing a particular incident, merely start discussing another. 2- The best one is deny the validity of the discussion by pointing out group membership of the poster. "Sure, it seems racist, but you can't talk about it because you are white." It seems to be used a lot. "The (insert membership) did it first." Sure, 60 years ago, somebody did something. Ok. If you want to discuss that, start your own thread. Using this stupid argument, nothing can ever be discussed. It is the first sure sign of a week argument. The membership can be so broad as to be meaningless. Country, race, ethnicity, gender... It implies that someone is responsible for the actions of the other members of any group that we join or end up in. It implies their agreement with any decisions made by those persons. Like, when someone accuses me of lacking common sense, my first thought, what's your point? I'm a skydiver.Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.
