happythoughts 0 #1 August 7, 2009 news QuoteClinton said the Obama administration would boost military supplies and other aid to the Somali government and an African peacekeeping force supporting it. She did not detail the new aid. So, she is providing military supplies and other aid. Also, she is supporting a non-Somali African force that is aiding Somalia. QuoteClinton said that the U.S. is concerned that "al-Shabab not only uses foreign fighters and foreign money but foreign ideas in its attack on the people of Somalia." These types are using foreign money and fighters. QuoteU.S. involvement in Somalia is a sensitive subject because of the 1992-94 American military intervention that began as a humanitarian mission to deliver aid supplies to Somalia. That ended in a humiliating withdrawal months after the 1993 "Black Hawk Down" incident in which two U.S. helicopters were downed and 18 servicemen killed. ...and down that slippery slope of avoidance. BDashe 0 #2 August 7, 2009 Clintons are great at causing or ignoring sh*t in africa then putting a band aid on it later and get a face saving photo op. Somalia, Rwanda, and Burundi come to mind. I'm sure ignoring Darfur long enough will allow the rise of a branch of the Clinton foundation with a tearful, hand holding speech, as well as a nice round 2 in Somalia. Not that Bush did anything for Sudan, but he never made it part of his agenda to begin with. Who knows, maybe he had it right though, just let em duke it out.So there I was...
