happythoughts 0 #1 August 5, 2009 Do healthcare policies have maximum limits ? Like... "Maximum benefit is 80% of the first $300K of covered expenses...". Some legalese like that? If you hit the limit, is it just "Sorry..." ?

If you hit the limit, is it just "Sorry..." ? Pretty much. If you want more insurance, you buy it. You don't want to buy it, you pay for treatment after you exceed the cap. That's why it's called insurance.Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
lawrocket 3 #3 August 6, 2009 Yep. More coverage may be purchased. Kinda of "umbrella" coverage for health. Policies may have a $1 million or $5 million lifetime benefit. This is for comprehensive coverage. Because these things can cover the kitchen sink they are more expensive. Also, like other insurance, the increase in cost is not linear for the increase in coverage. Hence, a $3.5k deductible plan might has monthly payments that total $6k per year (plus the $3.5k) that may total out to $9.5 k for coverage. But then you see monthly premiums of $900 for a $250 deducible plan, meaning that this person just spent $11k. Shop around. And get some catastrophic coverage. My wife is hotter than your wife. kelpdiver 2 #4 August 6, 2009 employer plans I've seen over the past several years often are unlimited for HMO plans, $5M for PPO ones. I thought the last time I shopped individual plans it looked similar, but I haven't in a while.
