dreamdancer 0 #1 July 22, 2009 seems affirmative action for white people is still the norm... QuoteThe treatment of black people by the police on issues such as stop and search and the national DNA database has worsened since the official inquiry into the murder of Stephen Lawrence 10 years ago, according to MPs. A report published by the Commons home affairs select committee tomorrow says the police have made some "tremendous strides'' in the past decade in the way they investigate race crimes and other criticial incidents involving minority ethnic communities, but MPs say there remains a number of outstanding concerns. "Black communities in particular are disproportionately represented in stop and search statistics and on the national DNA database; in fact, the gap has increased," they conclude. The cross-party group of MPs say that black people are now seven times more likely to be stopped by the police than white people. A decade ago, when the Macpherson report into the murder of black teenager Stephen Lawrence was published, black people were six times more likely to be stopped. The MPs also heard evidence that more than 30% of all black men who have been arrested now have their DNA profiles logged on the national DNA database, compared with 10% of all white men and 10% of all Asian men. The committee also expresses its disappointment that the police still fails to meet its target of employing 7% of its officers from minority ethnic communities by 2009. http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2009/jul/21/police-fail-black-communities-racismstay away from moving propellers - they bite blue skies from thai sky adventures good solid response-provoking keyboarding

jgoose71 0 #4 July 22, 2009 The article is "race baiting". It doesn't mention anything about where the crimes are happening and then lightly hints with no facts about possible blacks being skipped over for promotions. Does anyone have any articles about rich white guys driving down to poor black neighborhoods to commit armed robberies? When reading this article it almost sounds like this is what is going on and being covered up "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. StreetScooby 5 #5 July 22, 2009 Yep. It's kind of ridiculous. NYC just had to deal with a situation where the ACLU (...I believe) was claiming that many more blacks were being stopped than whites. The police responded by saying, "Well, who's committing the crimes?". Blacks are committing a disproportionately large number of the crimes, thus when they're looking for a bad guy, it tends to be a black person that gets stopped. We are all engines of karma

The coordinates of your house are already public record. ANYONE can go down to the hall of records and look them up. I used to do it all the time for various nefarious reasons. Darius11 12 #11 July 22, 2009 Not to mention more blacks end up in jail for committing the same crime that whites get probation for. To deny the disproportion is ludicrous. The cause of the unfair treatment is however more related to money then I think any thing else. metalslug 36 #15 July 23, 2009 If crime statistics showed that a disproportionate number of crimes were being committed by people driving blue panel vans, would the authorities be at fault to stop and search a disproportionate number of blue panel vans ? Profiling has been around for quite a few years already. I'm not sure how racial profiling is any less valid than other forms of profiling.
